Time Heels? - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Thur. 11-7-24
07/11/2024 Duración: 05minI connected with a different post here, and it was good timing for me with what is going on around us for sure. Strong Minded (@strongminded101) reminds us about this truth - “It’s not time that heals. It’s what you do with that time.” There is a lot of healing that is always needed throughout life, for every single human that has been on earth. Seems recently, we need new levels of healing. So, instead of just letting time go by - it’s important that each of us look to invest / spend / use the time to help make things better for ourselves and others. Always remember, your investment in yourself is the best investment you can ever do. I, for one, am doing just that. No sense in complaining and getting worked up about things that are totally out of my control. Thanks for listening. Prioritize This - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Wed. 11-6-24 #1398
06/11/2024 Duración: 09minFound a great connection with a recent post and Mitch Albom’s Tuesday People Podcast. Find the link HERE for his interview with Aaron Lazar where he is sharing the story of his diagnosis with ALS and the fact that he’s not caught up with wasting his time on things that he can’t control and don’t represent any value to his life. The post came from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and it was a powerful & quick reminder: “If you don’t prioritize your life, someone else will.” These go hand in hand in reminding me, what am I spending my time and efforts on? It got me thinking that I need to not only make sure I ask this question to the many staring back at me in my mirror each day, but also… who do I want driving “my bus” throughout my life? Good questions for all of us to ask ourselves. Thanks for listening. Life Is About - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Tue. 11-5-24 #1397
05/11/2024 Duración: 05minFound a great thought here to take on a bit more of reflection for all of us. I know I’m taking it on for sure. From Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard) - “Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” - George Bernard Shaw. The journey we are all on is more about a continuous creation of ourselves, rather than finding ourselves along the way. Our journey should not be defined by finding ourselves into any type of career, or how much money we make, or titles we attain. It’s about building our life to the best version of ourselves that we can, each and every day of our lives. Good stuff to take a long for sure. Thanks for listening. Different Sides of Sacrifice - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Mon. 11-4-24 #1396
04/11/2024 Duración: 04minMind Essentials (@Mind_Essentials) This first one reminds us that if we don’t sacrifice for our goals and dreams, those goals and dreams may end up being sacrificed for the work we didn’t do. With time going by so fast, it seems to me that I have a lot more work & effort I need to put into making some dreams / goals a reality. How about you? On the second plate for today’s self improvement snack was from Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard), where this one reminds us to make sure we have discipline on the days we don’t feel good or feel like doing things. That’s when we really need it. Yep.. comes back to standards over feelings for me on this one. The old saying is that discipline weighs ounces, regret weighs tons! As I’m getting older, I don’t want to look at regrets. Thanks for listening. Don't Wait For This - Motivation Monday Game Plan - #1395
04/11/2024 Duración: 05minFound a great pair of posts that I wanted to share with you to start off this week. First, Inspiration & More (@LifeWithJohn) comes at us with a very simple yet powerful reminder: “People wait all week for Friday, all year for summer, all a lifetime for happiness. Be happy today!” No sense in putting things off to wait to have some joy and happiness in your life. Set it up today!! We see too many examples of how fast time goes. On the second one from Coach Hines (@CoachKurtHines) where he reminds us to “Wake up each day, with the goal of leaving things (and most importantly, PEOPLE), better than you found them!” To me this goes with the idea of no sense of putting off being happy & doing things right in life. We all need more of this for sure, so why don’t we be the ones looking to do it. Thanks for listening. Sunday Conversation With Coach Daly & Craig Lindeman on Addiction- 11-3-24
03/11/2024 Duración: 49minStarting a new leap of faith here as I’ve been talking about getting guests back onto my show for awhile now & due to many people and things being tossed in my face and telling me to get going on this, here we go! My first guest in this new format is a friend of a friend who is now a friend of mine. Craig Lindeman begins to share his impactful and powerful story about addiction and how he’s dealing with it. Craig goes down some paths of emotions, anger, redemption; a real authentic and raw conversation with someone who is battling things in his life, every single day! We as humans all have battles and even though our battles might be a bit different than Craig’s, all of us can learn from him and others and apply those lessons into our own lives. This hopefully helps us to live our best lives! So many impactful lessons here. One for sure, is the fact that we all need to understand that ALL OF US have battles and we need to have our eyes, ears & hearts a bit more open to understand others, help oth

Shoutout To Everyone Battling - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Fri. 11-1-24 #1393
01/11/2024 Duración: 04minOnce again, things seem to pop up when I need to see them, think about them, reflect on them, get inspired, etc. This one came up from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) “Shoutout to everyone who…” We are all battling in life, probably on a few different fronts and probably more than one at a time. It’s one of the things that help define us as humans - there will always be things to overcome and get through in life. The key is we need to be reminded that we are not alone and that we need to keep going some days, especially when we don’t feel like it. I’m sending this out to cheer you on to just keep at it and don’t quit!! I needed that message / reminder when I saw this. Just wanted to share it with you too. Thanks for listening. True Strength - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Thur. 10-31-24 #1392
31/10/2024 Duración: 08minFound something that truly hit the target with 100% accuracy for me (and probably almost everyone else too), From Strong Minded (@strongminded101): “True strength is staying calm, in a world that tests your patience.” I think anytime we venture out of our place of residence, we get tested. Many times it happens even at home, but that’s the way life is. I’ve been working on this lately, without really seeing this statement for awhile. As soon as I saw it, I saw the importance of sharing it with you. We live in a world where getting our patience tested seems to be happening more and more, and we have to have this mindset ready to go so we can make it through our days. Hope this helps you study for the “tests” that come at us all the time. Thanks for listening. An Adventure Worth Taking - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Wed. 10-30-24 #1391
30/10/2024 Duración: 08minHad a fired up day today and I wanted to share a bit about it in this episode. First of all, I had a great conversation with a friend who’s looking to help others through the problems he has had in life. That conversation I hope to have coming out on Sunday - in a new idea, “Sunday conversations with Coach John”. (We’ll see how it goes). Then after I got done with the recording of our conversation, I found this post that directly connected with part of our fabulous conversation. From a HUGE difference maker himself, Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) “Trying to turn a dream into a reality is exciting, meaningful yet terrifying and often humiliating. But it's an adventure worth taking!” It reminded what my guest mentioned about his dream being ripped away from him but now he’s seeing that the struggles have a bright side to them. It’s the same for all of us. The struggles may be different, but there are always struggles for everyone. Thanks for listening. Please take a few moments to subscribe & share

Relentless Gratitude - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Tues. 10-29-24 #1390
29/10/2024 Duración: 09minHad a busy day yesterday where I went to a funeral for the mom of a longtime friend of mine. We have been friends for roughly 53 years and her mom was in her early 90’s when she passed away. The church was crowded of course with the impact her mom made on so many people. I also got to spend some time with my parents before the service at their house and then also at the church, because they knew my friend’s mom too. Powerful emotions all based around the idea of “relentless gratitude.” The gratitude part was something that I’ve been focusing on for a long time, and then one of Ben Newman’s themes is being relentless. Something he said recently in a post got me thinking about the two ideas being put together. Good things happen when I’m focusing on gratitude more than being distracted with other happenings. The relentless part of the equation seemed to fit together very well. Here is a Facebook Live that I recorded later in the day and I share some reflections. Hope the audio is good enough … one of many th

Problem Focusing - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Mon. 10-28-24 #1389
28/10/2024 Duración: 04minFound another great reminder for me to share with you - this one coming from Emily Paschall (@EmilyAPaschall) and she brings us a great quote from Todd Whitaker. The quote is “I don’t know if being positive solves problems, but I do know being negative doesn’t.” The problem is there - no matter what we think. To get through it or to solve it, it does make a difference not to have a negative attitude for sure. Another reason to be as positive as we can, since there seems to always be problems, we might as well give ourselves a good shot at getting through them. Thanks for listening. Me vs. Me - Motivation Monday Game Plan - #1388
28/10/2024 Duración: 06minFound this great reminder from TeacherGoals (@teachergoals) and it really is an important message for each and every one of us. “I don’t care who’s doing better than me. I am doing better than I was last year. It’s me vs. me.” In today’s age of people blaming others for how they are doing in life, it really comes down to remembering that we in fact control our own choices, attitudes, efforts, responses, taking on our own personal responsibilities, and it always is me vs. the person in my mirror. I’m trying to be better than I was yesterday, last month, last year, heck, even 4 years ago, and 8 years ago, 12 years ago; you get my drift? Keep striving to keep improving and developing yourself in all ways you can. In your relationships, health, finances, skills, attitude, etc. I for sure am trying the same. Thanks for listening. It's Late - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Fri. 10-25-24 #1387
25/10/2024 Duración: 09minConnecting with a quote I shared from a previous show. I found it from Devin Scillian’s (@DevinScillian) goodbye message when he announced he was retiring from our NBC affiliate here in the Detroit area, WDIV and he shared a quote from his friend Tom Sorrels when talking about him trying to decide about retiring. Tom said, “It’s later than you think.” Meaning if there is anything you want to do, get busy doing it because time is going by fast. I took that to heart and wrote it down. I connected it to the other night when I looked up and saw so many stars along with a very bright moon in the dark night-time sky. Not only does this remind me about how fast time is going and I need to get out of my own way and do the things that I want to (and need to) do… but also how much time there has been in human history along with how small I am (we all are). The time is now for all of us. Thanks for listening. Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple

Run & Hide - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Thur. 10-24-24 #1386
24/10/2024 Duración: 08minAnother great reminder came my way today from a wonderful difference maker, Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313) who is a former student that I got to know while working during a few of my 34 years in teaching and now he is an awesome teacher & coach himself. He’s not only helping his students and players, but plenty of people like me. Part of what he said as intro to this post was this: “Part of maturing is establishing the strength to persevere and recognizing that the work you do in the darkness will eventually come to the light in due time.” You see, I view myself as still maturing… even at my age.

Two Things To Control - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Wed. 10-23-24 #1385
23/10/2024 Duración: 05minFound a great reminder, and again, it was right when I needed it. I didn’t scroll too far when I saw this from Andrew Taylor (@andrewtaylor09) where he reminded me (and all of us) that “All you can control in life is your effort and your attitude. Effort is how hard you try. Attitude is how you respond.” This is attributed to many people, but he made the connection from Coach Don Meyer and the #MeyerMonday message. - Doug Dreyer/AP. I saw it when I needed it. Now remember, I’ve mentioned this idea many times on this podcast and throughout my life to my students and players. But once again, as I reminded my students and players all the time - the things I share with them, I also need those same reminders. The reminding never stops because we never stop being human and living our lives the best way we can. Some of those times means we struggle and need these lessons whispered in our ear along with then actually implementing them into our lives. I am doing that now. How about you? Thanks for listenin

Words People Use - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Tue. 10-22-24 #1384
22/10/2024 Duración: 11minComing at you today like a soup recipe, putting a few different ingredients in the meal for today. First coming from the book “Areté” written by Brian Johnson, and a section all about the etymology energy really means? It’s tied into work + love. I took the approach here with the help of a basketball coach, Joe Mazzulla explained why he doesn’t feel pressure from the Boston media: “.... They’re just saying words.” The words that people use can lift or they can knock down. I’m seeing more and more examples of people and their words (and actions) doing more to hurt than help people… and I’m trying to not let those words do any damage - but it’s tough. I’m trying to take the thought from Coach Ted Lasso about being a goldfish. They have the shortest memory and that’s exactly what I need to choose to have when it comes to words and actions that hurt. It’s really too bad that here is another example that “hurting people, hurt others.” It’s also really sad that there are way too many examples of this happ

Embracing Challenges - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Mon. 10-21-24 #1383
21/10/2024 Duración: 04minFound 3 distinct things that were posted this morning from Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313), Mark Hickie (@MPHickie), and Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) which all three of them reminded me about embracing challenges that come up (which they do every day), along with looking for the lessons to learn from them. Look to set ego aside when looking to do better & help others, and to not let the circumstances go without learning the lessons there to keep trying to get better. Speaking of lessons, a gift from a former student showed up this morning on my porch, my former student Erica sent me a book - I am amazed and full of gratitude for what she does for me and so many others. She reminds me that I need to keep doing the same for others - even more!! Go out and be your best today and everyday my friends. Thanks for listening. Don't Let The Coffee Get Cold - Motivation Monday Game Plan - #1382
21/10/2024 Duración: 13minFound a great post from a high school classmate that really hit home - and it brings home some important reminders about life. Here is the poem from Sophia Andreeva - Don't leave anything for later.Later, the coffee gets cold.Later, you lose interest.Later, the day turns into night.Later, people grow up.Later, people grow old.Later, life goes by.Later, you regret not doing something...When you had the chance.Life is a fleeting dance, a delicate balance of moments that unfold before us, never to return in quite the same way again.Regret is a bitter pill to swallow, a weight that bears down upon the soul with the burden of missed chances and unspoken words. So, let us not leave anything for later. Let us seize the moments as they come, with hearts open and arms outstretched to embrace the possibilities that lie before us. For in the end, it is not the things we did that we regret, but the things we left undone, the words left unspoken, the dreams left unfulfilled.- Toshikazu Kawaguchi,Before the Coffee Get

Sharpen Your Chainsaw - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Fri. 10-18-24 #1381
18/10/2024 Duración: 08minEvery time I read a passage from the book “Areté” written by Brian Johnson, I find some tremendous value from each lesson. This one is something that I wanted to make sure I shared with you. It’s titled “Saws vs. Chainsaws - It all always starts with energy.” He’s referring back to Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits” masterful book and it’s lesson #7, Sharpen the Saw! It’s about always looking to get better, to keep improving. He shares some powerful connections with some easy to understand connections. It’s really focusing on our energy that we bring to our everyday living. Go out and get this book… It's full of masterpieces. Big shoutout to Sean Casey - "The Mayor's Office Podcast" for sharing his love of this book so that I could also connect to it. Thanks for listening. The Struggle - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Thur. 10-17-24 #1380
17/10/2024 Duración: 07minI’m a student again.. in fact, every day of my life I’m still a student where I’m getting the opportunity to learn, be inspired and walk away better than before I saw this post from Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313). The struggle is real!! Love the line: “If you want to get better it’s absolutely essential.” Just knowing that each and every day, life will give us struggles, challenges, obstacles, etc. We might as well create some of the struggles ourselves towards the things we want to build and accomplish in life. We get to choose the things we can learn from when it comes to what we want to build in life. I know for me, it’s about time I get a bit more on offense to start putting more effort into things that I know I want to do. Thanks for listening.
