NATA REPLAY: Ep. 52: Chelsea Matthew-AT Impact, Beyond Athletics
24/06/2024 Duración: 49minAthletic training is a unique health care profession that in many of the “traditional” settings allows for patient interaction at minimum on a daily basis. This provides a unique opportunity for athletic trainers to be more to their athletes than just prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehab. Bonds of trust can get built as we often learn more about person lives than other health care providers are able to. Chelsea Matthew, an ATC in the secondary setting, has been doing this her entire career. Not only has she taken care of her athletes physically and mentally when she worked with them at their school, it has extended beyond that time and she continues to help them out as they go through life. In this episode Chelsea highlights the impact athletic trainers can have on the patients they serve and why it is so important to understand it is more beyond the physical aspect of the profession. Chelsea has some fantastic insights and resources to share. Please enjoy this episode. www.athletictrainingchat.co

Ep. 170: Dr. Kevin Biese-Sport Specialization
20/06/2024 Duración: 47minDr. Kevin Biese gave a talk at the 2024 Wisconsin Atheltic Trainers Association annual meeting on sports specialization and the evolution of the definition and what current and future research is showing about it. The talk was extremely informational and we wanted to share it on the podcast, thankfully, Kevin was more than willing. In this episode, Dr. Biese dives in deep into what sports specialization is and what the current working definition is. I, personally, was surprised at the definition because it doesn’t always only have to be about one sport and the focus on that one exclusively. Dr. Biese has some great general recommendations on how you can help ensure children don’t overdo it and also on conversations you can have with student-athletes as an athletic trainer to help them figure out if they are speicalizating and how it could relate to any aches and pains or changes in performance they have. So much to take away from this one. Enjoy. Extra resources shared by Dr. Biese below. In This Episode:
