13/03/2024 Duración: 21minSome of today's top storiesA man is behind bars this morning after an hours-long standoff with KCSO deputies in Rosamond.This is what the scene looked like last night. The Kern County Sheriff's Office says deputies were sent to this home for a report of a restraining order violation. However, deputies say a man -- identified as 24-year-old Joseph Nelson -- refused to come out and barricaded himself inside a room. You can see several emergency vehicles were on scene during this time... as deputies asked the public to stay away. The man eventually walked out of the home hours later... and was taken into custody on several charges.This morning we know the name of the man who was shot and killed by a KCSO deputy this week. The coroner says 53-year-old Cole Jackson Hughes of Bakersfield was killed in the shooting. Deputies say they initially responded to a report of domestic violence at a home on Beardsley Avenue on Sunday. KCSO says Hughes was armed with a deadly weapon when deputies arrived.

Dozens of people are back on the street this morning after being arrested during an encampment sweep in Old Town Kern. The sweep is drawing polarizing opinions. Some say it is just making the homeless crisis worse.... while others say strategical sweeps can be the solution. 17's Cecilia Trevino has the story.In an effort to combat the homeless crisis here in Kern County... a local nonprofit is getting a big check from the feds -- worth 9 million dollars.Hanford representative David Valadao secured the funds last week in the passage of a new bill in congress. You can see him checking the site -- with Open Door members -- for an impending homeless shelter. Open Door says the project will be "truly transformative." 11/03/2024 Duración: 21minSome of today's top storiesa violent crash that shut down lanes of highway 178 last night.one of the cars resting in the median of the road.This happened on the 178 between Haley Street and Mount Vernon Avenue.At least two cars were involved.Most of the road had to be shut down as crews cleared the area.We're still waiting for more information about the crash from CHP, but an ambulance was seen leaving the scene.A man accused of domestic violence and being armed with weapons was shot by a deputy in Oildale.The shooting happened yesterday afternoon. KCSO says deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a home on Beardsley Avenue. Officials say when deputies arrived, they confronted a man armed with a deadly weapon. One deputy shot the suspect. That man was sent to the hospital. No one else was hurt. Investigators say a man was shot several times and was inside this home when deputies arrived. KCSO says the man was taken to the hospital with wounds that do not appear to be life threatening. No word this morning on any possible suspects.Now to a standoff that played out in southwest Bakersfield. Officers were called to a home yesterday afternoon on Tulane Park Place for a welfare check.. Police say a man called to report that his brother was unresponsive inside a car. Witnesses say they saw officers arrive and break through a backseat window. You can see what appears to be glass on the ground near the car. Police say there were no obvious signs of trauma to the body. The investigation is ongoing.An inmate was found dead inside the Lerdo Jail. The coroner's office says 30-year-old Jocelin Berly Alvarez died on Sunday. At Phillips Station, the DWR measured the water content of the sierra snowpack... showing a depth of 47 point 5 inches -- roughly four feet.. which is about 77 percent of the average for this time of year at that location. DWR's electronic readings from 130 stations placed throughout the state indicate the statewide snowpack's water equivalent is 80-percent of average for this date -- a significant improvement from just 28% of average on January 1st. We have new information on an accident near Buttonwillow, that sent two men to the hospital. The crash happened yesterday morning on the 58 east of Bussell Road. This is on the railroad along Edison Highway... near the East California Avenue intersection. Crews first got word of the fire shortly after 2 A-M. No word yet on how it started... or if anyone was hurt. This is the second time in the past week that a train has caught fire in Bakersfield.An investigation is underway this morning into a crash that left a man dead and two others hurt in Shafter. It happened yesterday morning on Zerker Road... near 7th Standard Road. Four cars were involved. One man died at the scene. Two other drivers were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.Three people were sent to the hospital... after being exposed to chemicals in Boron. The Kern County Hazmat team was called to this scene Monday morning.

Another pedestrian is dead this morning following a hit-and-run crash.It happened around 9-30 at the intersection of Columbus and Rice Street. When officers arrived... they say they found a man dead in the middle of the road. The driver involved in the crash had already fled. Investigators say the man was hit in an "unmarked crosswalk." An investigation continues this morning. By our count... this was 9-th pedestrian fatality in Kern County so far this year. Last year, there were 54.An apparent stabbing has left a man dead in east Bakersfield. It happened around 7:30 on Haley and Columbus Streets, near the Social Security Administration office. According to at least one witness, a man was stabbed. Emergency crews could be seen performing chest compressions on the victim for close to an hour.
