FILM SCHOOL returns in May 2019 for an east coast headlining tour with supporting act MINT FIELD and a new EP. This on the heals of the September 2018 release 'Bright to Death', their fifth album and first full-length LP since 2010’s ‘Fission'. Recorded over 8 days in November 2017 on the outskirts of Joshua Tree, this luminescent collection of 11 songs is the finest showcase yet for the band’s signature layered sonic tones, psychedelic atmospheres, and seductive melodies. The album gets its title from text on an artwork singer and guitarist Greg Bertens had seen, part of an exhibit by Chinese students on the topic of global warming. “Bright to death” popped into his head as the band was recording in sun-blistered Joshua Tree, and it stuck. In addition to four members of the original lineup, the album features drummer Adam Wade(Shudder to Think, Jawbox) on several songs, and was mixed by Dan Long at Headwest Studios and mastered by David Gardner at Infrasonic Sound. Old Time Relijun was born on January 1st, 1995 in a dark and moldy basement in Olympia, Washington. The band stole some popcorn bags, talked a friend out of his inheritance and self-released “Songbook Vol. I” in 1997. They then began their long association with Calvin Johnson’s K Records. Old Time Relijun maintained its singular identity through every musical landscape over the next dozen years. Kath Bloom was born to musical parents. Her father was famous oboe player: Robert Bloom. She loved and lived for music of all kinds, but by the late seventies , she had absorbed much of the amazing folk and rock musicians who lived and died and changed the world during those times. She sang harmony with her friends ,and eventually picked up a guitar and wrote her own stuff. Teaming up with Loren Mazzacane and Tom Hanford in New Haven Ct, she became very prolific. But performing made her nervous and strangely withdrawn. She also painted and wrote poetry, then had a child and a failed marriage. She later found Stan Bronski(second husband). They had two more boys. All the while, writing and singing. She also began doing music with small children, eventually teaching classes.
