100NO 335: Think Global Act Local | Home Is Where The Heart Is
01/09/2019 Duración: 28minDamian has just moved house, and not only has he moved house, but he has left the rent game and become an owner-occupier. What does it feel like moving from a rental to your own home? And what are the benefits of loving not only your home, but the community you love to be around? If you care about local issues and want the local public toilet fixed, what does that mean? In a world we care so much about global issues and sometimes so little about local ones, this episode attempts to define how to navigate “think global act local”. This is our last recording before we head to Greece to host our 100 Not Out Longevity Experience. This is our third time to Ikaria – the island where people forget to die – and already have registrations for a 2020 Longevity Experience. 100NO 333: Damo has lost his voice. Is his body telling him something?
18/08/2019 Duración: 22minDamo’s lost his voice. It’s the third time in four years. Is there’s a deeper meaning behind all of this, or is the Melbourne winter causing Damo’s laryngitis to act as a protective defense mechanism? With The Wellness Summit just behind us – did Damo’s voice return in time? If not, why not? And are we at risk of over-analysing something which may not be necessary? The body’s symptoms can often be attributed to something going on in our lives. Tight and sore necks are often related to stress, as is shoulder pain. Low back pain is often an effect of some form of mental or emotional stress. But at the same time, wellness enthusiasts can be quick to over dramatise their symptoms. A fascinating chat on this episode of 100 Not Out. On a practical note – Damo’s regime for his laryngitis – 5 Mushroom extract Herbs containing licorice, slippery elm, Andrographis and astragalus Vitamin C Probiotics Manuka honey and lemon drink Clearly the above is not a health recommendation. 100NO 330: Do We All Have Equal Opportunity To Live Our Best Life?
28/07/2019 Duración: 27minIf we started our lives seeking the most fulfilling lives and taking each opportunity that arose, would we all start to see that life is an incredible gift? Given humanity’s tendency to accept mediocrity and survival, do we all have equal opportunity to live our best lives? Does the environment we find ourselves in dictate inequality in relation to our opportunity to create our ideal life? These big questions and more get discussed on this open and vulnerable conversation of 100 Not Out. 100NO 328: Victor Hugo’s Clue To Massively Exceeding Life Expectancy
14/07/2019 Duración: 27minWhen Victor Hugo was born, life expectancy at the time hovered between 30 and 40 years of age. How then, did people like Hugo go on to live to age 83? The author of Les Miserables and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, is by no means alone. You don’t have to be famous to dramatically outlive life expectancy, and wealth is not a precursor to longevity either. Nutrition is often thought to be the key driver, but we know that not to be the case. Hugo buried four of his five children, and the only child to outlive him was a schizophreniac who lived and died in a mental institution. So what is it? Why do people like Hugo not live just a few years past life expectancy, but decades longer? The answers (well at least our thoughts) and more in this episode of 100 Not Out. 100NO 327: Conservative Courage – Resisting The Urge To Be Reckless
07/07/2019 Duración: 24minWe have both had family members make some brave, bold decisions recently, and they are in the third act of life (aka they are not our children, but instead our parents). Both examples of this conservative courage are on the back of houses being sold – and tie in with our regular conversation on “loving where you live”. At some stages, not loving where you live but “hanging in there” can pay great dividends. Being Stoic over Snap Happy and resisting the urge to be reckless can be just as revered. Will this ever change? Or have the rules for successful living changed? Is being stoic and persevering something that we only get better at with age, or is it something we can learn and embody at any time? All of this and more on the latest edition of 100 Not Out. 100NO 326: A GPs Perspective – Nutrition Is Not The Answer To Successful Ageing
30/06/2019 Duración: 25minWe’ve discussed many times before on this podcast just how important nutrition is for successful ageing, and also how it’s not the everything. To dive deeper into this topic we bring on respected medical doctor Dr Alice, who featured on episode 256 of 100 Not Out alongside her inspirational mother Ada. Today we talk about – ** The importance of nutrition ** The impact of stress, particularly when you’re eating well! ** The power of meditation and the art of being present And so much more. 100NO 325: McDonalds Won’t Kill You | Extremism Will
24/06/2019 Duración: 26minDamian is due to give a presentation out the front of a McDonald’s Restaurant. We discuss how he feels about this and talk more broadly how extremism exists in the wellness community. Talk of “unfriendly” extremism and the pros and cons of exposing ourselves and our loved ones to both sides of the health and sickness spectrum come up. Is it OK for your children to eat McDonalds or other junk foods? Have we taken wellness too far? What of the graceful agers who we’ve interviewed – would they have eaten at McDonalds? This episode of 100 Not Out is yet another wake up call about what it takes to age well. Want more? His travels are the basis of his upcoming documentary The Longevity Film. What has Kale learnt in Okinawa – one of National Geographic’s official Blue Zones. 100NO 323: Do We Need Science To Explain Longevity?
09/06/2019 Duración: 28minThere seems to be no end in sight of humanity’s commitment to finding a “cure” for ageing. Anti-ageing continues to dominate the psyche of many, and there continues to be a determination from within science to “defeat” ageing and defy this thing called death. Billions of dollars get spent each year on research into what nutrients help slow down the ageing process, and there are many people who take hundreds of pills each day in a bid to extend their lifespan. But are they barking up the wrong tree? We tend to think that longevity is not a combination of biohacks or pills. This conversation and more in this episode of 100 Not Out. 100NO 320: Nature v Nurture | Genes v Environment
19/05/2019 Duración: 28minMany people feel like they can change anything – from hair colour to body shape, even to baby gender. In this world of bespoke anything, what is the role of the environment? And how much weight can we give to our upbringing? If we are a lot like our parents or the people who raised us, is it upon us to change it? And when it comes to our loved ones, how much expectation is there for people to change? 100NO 319: Stress is Good
12/05/2019 Duración: 25minThat’s right. Stress is good and we don’t get enough of it. On this episode, we completely revolutionise the conversation around stress. The vocabulary changes, and Damian shares how “you won’t get a result unless you go into stress.” Anything you want in life requires an element of stress. And more than ever people are trying to get what they want without stressing. Instead of “reducing” stress it’s time to “maximise” the power of stress. If reading this doesn’t make sense, then listening to this episode will. We promise! Photo by Gabriel Matula on Unsplash The post 100NO 319: Stress is Good appeared first on The Wellness Couch.

100NO 318: Hump Day | Getting Through The Grind | Groundhog Day Musings
05/05/2019 Duración: 25minMany people despise the feelings of “groundhog day”. But what if there was a sign or power to those feelings of boredom and a general lack of fulfillment. When we talk about the “grind” of daily life, it rarely conjures up images of success. But what if the “grind” was something that only the true exceptionals of this world did. When we look at people we admire, we often love their commitment to doing the hard work – the grinding. On this episode, we ask whether we have become too “Grind averse” today, constantly looking for the easy work and what keeps us comfortable. The graceful agers we have interviewed have had to grind more than most – and that’s what we love about them. After being “found out” as husband and wife, Thelma returned home to Adelaide, whilst Alby was deployed around Asia with the Air Construction Corps, repairing airstrips blown up and destroyed by the Japanese. Thelma saw her husband Alby for four days in the next two years. Thelma Zimmerman, we salute you! 100NO 316: 7 Seeds Of Your Life Purpose
21/04/2019 Duración: 28minMarcus is in the thick of preparing for his signature event Exceptional Life Blueprint Live in Byron Bay and wants to run some of the content by Damo and the listeners. Marcus shares insights on the 7 seeds of your life purpose – or the reason you were born to live. Some of these seeds include your family upbringing, a crisis you’ve experiences – be it physical, cultural, financial, familial, environmental, etc. When looking at some of the most inspirational people on the planet, there life purpose often came from a crisis. Alternatively, family pressure, resistance and even the “opposite” nature of family members (giving us the feeling of a black sheep) is a regular source of life purpose clarity.
