009: Avoiding Lifestyle Creep and Investing Back Into Your Business
28/04/2015 Duración: 01h27sSuccess almost never comes overnight. It’s much like a frog boiling. Slowly, the temperature changes and as it does, the frog becomes accustomed. He adapts—and to his ultimate demise. You don’t notice success as it is happening to you. Success is also a subjective thing and not a place of arrival. Because success comes slowly, we adapt to it. We allow the way we live to match our income as we prosper. This is called lifestyle creep. Lifestyle creep is allowing your income to determine your behavior and your habits. This is the default. Without actively guarding your lifestyle and protecting yourself from lifestyle creep, you are welcoming it. This is how you have people making $100,000, $200,000, and even $500,000 a year still living month-to-month or operate with debt. How can this be? It’s because it’s a mindset. That is the danger of lifestyle creep and that is the danger of the lack of planning. If you’re not planning for success, you’re setting yourself up for failure. What does planning for success

008: Haters Gonna Hate
21/04/2015 Duración: 01h05minA 5-year-old boy with cancer. He's given 6 months left to live. He has a dream car. What do you do? Do you mock him? Do you ridicule him? Do you tell him he's unreasonable? No, you tell him you believe in his dream. You do whatever you can to get him a ride in that car. His time on this planet is limited. But wait. The boy is now 25. He has the same dream. Somehow he is now ridiculous. The boy is now 55. Somehow he is foolish. When a story involves a 5-year-old boy with cancer, there is suddenly clarity. He is going to die soon. Yet, none of us know how much time we have left on this planet. Will we live to be 90? Do we have next year? We don't even know if we have tomorrow. Yet, we ridicule one another for dreaming big. Worse, we so often allow the haters of this world to mock and belittle us when we dare to aim for something greater than the status quo. One of us was told we might have cancer. Suddenly things got a lot clearer. We talk about that in this episode.

007: Funding: How to Get Cash for Your New Business
14/04/2015 Duración: 01h13minBusinesses take money to run. When you’re starting out, this can be difficult. Where do you get that initial capital? I like to use what I call The Overlap Technique. It’s where you use your day job as a foundation to cover your bills while you hustle on the side. There’s a lot more to it than that, but in this episode, I talk about my very first business and what I could have done better. Matt talks about how he worked with his competitors to land a big deal with his carpet cleaning business. We both have different approaches to business and money. I have a strict no-debt mentality, Matt occasionally borrows to make calculated investments with quick turnarounds. You’ll hear about both of our approaches. Matt shares the details behind the house flipping he does and I tell you how I rented my first apartment as a self-employed person without any credit. In the latter half, the episode it gets really good: we bring in Cory, our video producer, who is just getting started with client work. He wants to buy e

006: Content Marketing Ideas for New Businesses
31/03/2015 Duración: 01h07minYou’re starting a new business. You don’t have a ton of money to throw at advertising. How do you get eyes on your stuff? Enter: content marketing. You may have heard this term “content marketing” thrown around before. Let’s clear things up—it’s really simple: it’s simply creating relevant content in various forms and various mediums as a means of attracting people to your site and your products and increasing your brand perception or awareness. Posting a photo on Instagram is a form of content marketing. So is tweeting. So is uploading a video to YouTube. So is sending a newsletter. We’re going to talk about what type of content to create, why you want to teach everything you know, the importance of planning your content, and how often you should be publishing.

005: Accomplishing Your Goals Without Losing Everything That’s Important to You
24/03/2015 Duración: 01h16minThis is the story of the Lambo Goal podcast that almost wasn’t. We’ve been recording since January, gearing up for a big launch and I get a text from Matt the night before we’re supposed to record our 5th episode telling me he can’t make it. What’s the big deal? It’s just one episode right? I’d hoped so, but when I talked with Matt on the phone, I could hear the stress and apprehension. He’d been working on a big real estate deal and it had been taking all his time. He was hardly sleeping, much less spending time with his family and certainly not recording podcasts! He wasn’t sure he could commit to sticking with the show. Rest assured, there’s a happy ending (that’s why you’re even reading this), but it almost all came crashing down and Matt was almost certainly heading towards burnout. What’s the point of reaching your big goal if you lose everything and everyone that matters to you along the way? In this episode, we talk about that very important balance between goals, family, and health.

004: What Is Focus Worth in Dollars?
17/03/2015 Duración: 01h08minDo you want to set money on fire? Neither do I. But that’s exactly what you’re doing whenever you break your focus. You have to not only eliminate distractions, but you have to eliminate the very possibility of interruptions. Most people grossly underestimate the value of highly-focused time. You can get more done in a 90-minute chunk of highly-focused time than you can in an entire day of constant interruptions. Anything less is setting money on fire. Chances are, you’re getting interrupted way more often than you realize and it’s killing your productivity. It may seem like interruptions are outside your control, but you have more power over them than you realize. In this episode, we talk about the importance of focus, but we also bring it down to a practical level with tips on how to stay focused, how to eliminate distractions, what kind of music helps different tasks, and how to create a distraction-free zone.

003: Creating A Business Plan
10/03/2015 Duración: 01h12minHave you ever found yourself working hard, day after day, doing the same thing and getting by, but not really knowing where you’re going? It’s easy to do in business—especially if you don’t have a plan. Growth doesn’t happen automatically and what might feel like progress could actually be wandering around in circles if you don’t have any direction. One sentence. That’s what Matt says you should be able to condense the purpose of your business down to. Can you tell people what you do in a sentence? What is your mission statement? You need to know what separates you from the competition. What is your unique selling proposition (USP)? Matt talks about his very first business. He tells the story of his family’s snow cone business and how he got started with selling. I ask him whether you should make growth or hiring a goal and how to know the right time to hire.

002: Validating Your Business Idea
03/03/2015 Duración: 51minYou’ve got your Lambo Goal. You wrote out the 20 steps we talked about in the last episode. One of the things you wrote was that you wanted to start a new business. You have an idea for a business but you’re not sure how to validate your business idea. We give you some guidance on how to know whether people will even buy your product or whether you’re building the right thing. You might have a product that sounds cool to you, but if no one actually wants it, that does you absolutely no good! How do you know if people will actually pay for something? No, it’s not as simple as asking them. You can get 10 people to say they’d buy your product out of politeness and still have zero sales. We’ll show you how to observe your potential customers and find out exactly what they’re looking for. In this episode, we’ll help you make sure the next thing you build is something people actually want.

001: How to Buy a Lamborghini in Cash
24/02/2015 Duración: 01h20minThis is where it all begins. Two entrepreneurs take you behind the scenes of their businesses, share real revenue numbers, real struggles, and every step along the way to achieving a huge goal. This is a podcast about business. It all started in April of 2014. In e068 of the seanwes podcast, I said, “You have one life. Set bigger goals.” As of this recording, it remains the single most popular episode of the seanwes podcast. In it, I shared my big goal—the goal that ultimately became known as the Lambo Goal (you’ll hear more about that soon). The purpose of sharing this was to inspire people and to get them to dream bigger. Step 1 is to find your Lambo Goal. No, it doesn’t have to be a supercar, but in a nutshell, you want to take your biggest goal and double it. My official Lambo Goal (and the one Matt adopted as well) is to buy a Lamborghini Aventador (a $400,000 car) in cash, but only when it represents 10% of my money. No, I’m nowhere even close to that. It’s just a big goal I’m setting. Some people
