  • Quick Break with Coach Myson: Boosting Sales By Balancing Focus Across Social Media Platforms

    07/06/2024 Duración: 05min

What's up, basketball trainers? I recently recorded one of my quickest podcasts ever, where I shared some thoughts on organic social media and how it intertwines with paid advertising. Lately, I've been reflecting on the importance of balancing day trading attention and leveraging platforms like Google My Business, Instagram, and Facebook. I'm learning that quality content tailored to each platform's audience—like parents on Facebook and athletes on Instagram—can effectively drive sales. Additionally, I'm considering how to maximize the long-term benefits of platforms like YouTube, where content has an enduring impact compared to the fast-paced feeds of Instagram and Facebook. Our strategy involves prospecting through social media posts, using high-performing posts for Facebook ads to get the best return on investment. Inspired by advice from Coach P and others, I see the value in creating and curating engaging content for our specific audience. This approach, though requiring more time an

  • Quick Break with Coach Myson: Smart Strategies for Trainers to Work Less and Earn More This Summer

    05/06/2024 Duración: 05min

What's up, basketball trainers? Summertime is a busy period for us trainers, and unlike last summer, I'm aiming to work fewer hours while making more money. I believe it's crucial to give 100% to our trainees, even if we want to reduce our workload. Scarcity and urgency are still effective strategies in our business, and although we see some drop-offs due to travel and other sports, there's also an influx of new customers. Right now, we're focusing on reducing expenses while maintaining the same number of clients. I'm revisiting the book "Gym Launch" and applying principles like offering fewer sessions, slightly increasing prices, billing on a 28-day cycle, and changing the teacher-to-athlete ratio. Additionally, I'm looking at where we can cut 20% of our expenses without losing customers, which has been a fascinating exercise. Facebook ads didn't perform well in May, so we're pausing them for June, but Google My Business has been incredibly helpful. I'm also

  • Quick Break with Coach Myson: Defining Success in Basketball Training

    28/05/2024 Duración: 06min

What's up, basketball trainers? Hope y'all had a meaningful Memorial Day weekend! As I get ready to assist with this Nike camp, I wanted to share some thoughts from a recent Instagram conversation with a basketball trainer about what it takes to be successful in basketball training. The answer is quite subjective; it depends on one's definition of success. For some trainers, success means having the flexibility to train a few times a week while keeping most of the profits. Others might own their facilities, managing hefty monthly fees, and love the challenge of a larger operation. Some trainers focus solely on online training and do quite well. Personally, as the owner-operator of Hoops University, I am now more focused on recruiting teammates to help with training sessions rather than trainees or gym space. It's a grind and a hustle, but success varies for everyone based on their business model and goals. What I've learned is that figuring out your business model is crucial. Some train

  • Quick Break with Coach Myson: Turning Facebook Ads Into a Money Machine for Long-Term Success

    23/05/2024 Duración: 09min

What's up, basketball trainers? In this podcast episode, I dive into the world of business numbers, focusing on the concept of lifetime value (LTV) and how it relates to advertising, especially through Facebook. My goal is to create a "money machine" that returns three to four dollars for every dollar spent. I reflect on my experience training kids from sixth grade to college and how understanding the cost of acquiring a customer through Facebook ads is crucial. It's not just about minimizing costs but also about acquiring high-quality customers who stay longer. I illustrate the complexity of calculating LTV by emphasizing the importance of considering the actual costs to provide a service, rather than a simplified formula of price times the number of purchases. Tracking these numbers has made me realize the potential of focusing on private training clients who pay more and stay longer. The insights from LTV calculations have helped me determine how much to spend on acquiring new customers

  • What Basketball Trainers Can Learn From AAU Tourney Directors

    20/05/2024 Duración: 13min

What's up, basketball trainers? I've been reflecting on the recent AAU tournament pricing issues. I noticed a tournament only offering day passes at $32.12, which sparked my curiosity about pricing elasticity in our industry. As basketball trainers or business owners, we have the flexibility to adjust our prices and gauge market demand. This pricing issue is particularly relevant now, considering my recent podcast discussing fairness and truth in these matters. Whether you're a parent or a tournament director, I hope you can see my effort to empathize with both sides and recognize that AAU offers benefits beyond just the basketball experience. From a business perspective, I understand the challenges of running AAU tournaments and the tough decisions regarding pricing. The rising costs and the need to balance profits with customer satisfaction are significant hurdles. Prices for AAU tournaments have indeed increased significantly compared to when I played, and this has sparked debates about fairne

  • Quick Break With Coach Myson: Post Mini-Vacation Thoughts

    16/05/2024 Duración: 07min

What's up, basketball trainers? I just got back from a mini retirement, or what some might call a vacation, and it got me thinking about how I work to grow my training business. I've been trying to reframe my mind to understand that retirement doesn’t mean stopping work altogether, but rather focusing on the most exciting projects. One thing I highly recommend is a time and energy audit—track your activities in 15-minute increments for two weeks, highlight what energizes or drains you, and mark how productive each task is. This has been eye-opening for me, helping me see what to delegate and how to maximize my efficiency. Check more on this time and energy audit concept from Dan Martell's Buy Back Your Time and feel free to share your thoughts on my IG account. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/basketballtobusiness/message

  • Our Facebook Account Got Hacked!

    30/05/2023 Duración: 04min

Yes, our Facebook accounts (personal and business) got hacked thru the Ad platform. Two problems because of this: - Compared to IG, it's in Facebook where our customers can swipe their cards to pay for our services - We've got a fair amount of leads from Facebook and we're gearing towards ramping up the advertising spins to get more customers But, we're also taking this unfortunate event as a blessing in disguise because: - This gives us the idea to explore more on other marketing strategies such as Google Ads and there's nothing wrong with refocusing back on doing email marketing and other Gorilla marketing tactics which have been proven effective before the internet era - We are reminded to make sure to get email addresses, phone numbers and other contact info from our clients in case we lose access to our social media and other online accounts that we use in marketing our training business - May it be paid advertising or organic ways (flyers, business cards, etc.) to market the busines

  • Profit First: A Must-Read For Basketball Trainers Aiming For Financial Growth in 2023

    29/11/2022 Duración: 11min

A lot of trainers have been recommending this to me and I don’t often say a book is a must-read, but "Profit First" definitely has earned it. This book focuses not only on the heath of your business, but making sure you have your ratios intact.  Also with Profit First, similar to the so-called "Envelope System", you've got pockets of: - Operating Expenses (i.e. gym rental, teammate fees, marketing fee, etc.) - Profit Account - Tax Account - Income Account - Owner's Compensation Account So, anyone running a basketball business should listen to this and I guarantee that it will change your perspective on your business' finances going into 2023.
