Ryland Foxx
04/06/2016 Duración: 27minIn the exclusive terrain where the melodic and harmonic sensibilities of a weathered, Americana singer/songwriter meet the brashness of a seasoned punk rock artist, you’ll find Ryland Foxx‘s boots firmly planted. Influenced by modern solo artists like Ryan Adams, Jason Isbell, and Butch Walker, as well as classic rock/punk acts like Gin Blossoms, The Misfits, and The Ramones- his roots are evident yet tastefully confident, as Foxx carries his audience through an array of eras and styles in the unparalleled journey to his musical destinations. “Foxx’s songwriting draws effortlessly from these different genres and his vocals are able to capture this sound just as easily.” (Heath Andrews, Music Critic) “Ryland Foxx is a tough artist to put into any one genre. Blending pop with rock and hints of country, he’s an eclectic artist with a great talent.” (Female First, UK).

Jason Maek & Zaena
26/05/2016 Duración: 27minGreatness requires a delicate blend of ability, work ethic, and most importantly self-sacrifice. Combining their skills in music production, DJ’ing, singing, and rapping, Jason Maek and Zaena set aside their solo careers to form one of the most uniquely talented duos in electronic music. Though walking separate paths, the careers of these two musicians have always been linked. The Chicago-based emcee quickly earned a reputation for his hard-hitting and polarizing content while the Libyan born vocalist separated herself in an industry polluted with oversexualized show ponies and one-hit wonders. Their recently released sophomore album, ‘Fashion Week” The Visual Album’ was called, “The first great music project of the year” by Rolling Stone. It been featured in countless publications such as DJ Mag and Rolling Out, and will be the first visual album on Netflix. Their first project, the ‘Maek Pandamonium Visual Album‘, was the first visual album in electronic music history. The critically acclaimed piece was

Signal To Noise - May 19th, 2016
26/05/2016 Duración: 25minSignal-to-Noise (S/N) is a call to introspection. I won’t tell you what to believe. In fact, I suggest doing away with belief altogether. Assumption breeds delusion. An examination of the inner workings of the mind without judgement or preconception allows us to trade believing for knowing, to end suffering and free ourselves from the bounds of physical reality. This message is not my own. It is older than time itself. S/N’s music aims to reinvigorate the universal spirit dwelling within us all. Founded by Michael Downing in early 2015 following the release the debut album I Won’t Let the World Become a Prison, S/N first performed on Chicago Que4 Radio’s The Flabby Hoffman Show as an acoustic trio featuring Kayla Comerford and Matthew Dealy. S/N has since performed all over Chicago at venues including Underground Lounge, The Elbo Room, The Burlington, and recently as the opener for internationally touring band Little May at Chicago’s famous Schubas Tavern.

Well Yells
22/05/2016 Duración: 35minWell Yells is darkwave, ghostly sounds, surreal lyrics that construct their own logic. It imagines the entity that you call to at the bottom of a well, or what it’s like to be inside a well. It’s the solo project of Chicagoan Patrick Holbrook, who wanted to do something with the music fragments he could remember from his dreams, and make a portal to his teenage days, when he learned to play bass by following along to Joy Division and Bauhaus songs. More recently, he runs the record label Hairy Spider Legs, and was in the music project Laughing Eye Weeping Eye with his wife Rebecca Schoenecker. Well Yells has drawn comparisons to The Cure, John Carpenter, The Legendary Pink Dots, Clan of Xymox, and A Certain Ratio.

The Baby Magic - April 28th, 2016
30/04/2016 Duración: 29minThis week we had Mary Beth of The Baby Magic in the studio talking to Hex. We discussed the success and rise of women in music, ex's, and how to channel energy into music. Some artists grab your attention immediately, but fail to hold it very long. Others dig into your subconscious, until you can’t get that tune out of your head. When a rare band hits you right off the first note and stays in your head long after the record stopped spinning or the house lights come on, you know you’ve found some magic. And if you’re one of those artists that can conjure up that magic, you may as well put it in your name. There you have Chicago’s The Baby Magic. A trio of hyperactive yet hyper-articulate musicians bangin’ out the sexiest new-wave/no-wave jams you’ve ever heard, The Baby Magic enthralls the listener on their newest record “Rent a Place in Hell” as well as previous effort “Whoopsy Daisy.” Their songs conjure up the best moments of Beat Happening, Talking Heads, and newer groups like Death From Above 1979 witho

Mean Sea Level - April 28th, 2016
30/04/2016 Duración: 27minThis week we talk to Brett of Mean Sea Level. We discuss the difference between the art of an album vs the music of a live show. He speaks to us about how his new life as a father influences how he approaches and produces his music. Mean Sea Level weaves one-man eternal tropicalian fantasy recordings, at one glance gently fingerpicked and introspective, and alternately swallowing the heaviness of the universe in intricate bumping gulps. Mean Sea Level is the recording project of Brett Barton, Chicago-based singer, composer and engineer. This side project is a vehicle for reflection and exploration, for discovering new arrangements and sound combinations. Live, Mean Sea Level is joined by Don Ogilvie on drums (Pedal Steel Transmission, Stick Season) and Gary Pyskacek on upright bass (Pedal Steel Transmission, The Part Five).

TALsounds - April 21st, 2016
23/04/2016 Duración: 29minNatalie Chami adopted the TALsounds moniker in 2009 for her solo explorations in the drone, ambient, and electro-acoustic improv disciplines. In live performance, Chami’s analog synthesizers weave together into drifting loops that evolve in tandem with her vocal leads and choral harmonies. Her meditative sessions stretch into hypnotizing depths of stream-of-consciousness multi-instrumental input, sinking into expanses of infinite sustain and cresting into bursts of noise from an arsenal of oscillators and effects pedals. As a member of free music trio Good Willsmith, she has toured the country and released eight albums since 2012, including the LPs The Honeymoon Workbook (2014) and Things Our Bodies Used To Have (2016) on Mexico City-based label Umor Rex. Chami performs as half of ambient duo l’eternebre, and co-founded the experimental collective/netlabel Screaming Claws. She was born in Ontario and lives in Chicago.

Touched By Ghoul - April 14th, 2016
23/04/2016 Duración: 19minRaised in a basement and surviving only on sheer will and flamin' hot cheetos, Touched by Ghoul clawed their way to the surface to induce the vomit of your soul. Touched By Ghoul exists in their own post-nostalgic now, rock and roll gravediggers tearing right through their dissonant yet beautiful Earth. Helmed by Angela Mullenhour (Sybris, Coins) along with a broody bunch of rock and roll ruffians of the Chicago scuzz scene, Touched By Ghoul constructs a soundtrack that is equally at home at a dive bar or a séance. On their debut LP coming out on new Chicago imprint Under Road Records, Mullenhour hollers her way through a filthy, living, breathing, kidnapping, dead body finding love story backed by Paige Sandlin’s animal drums kicking through the fog and fury of guitar wars. Recorded by Bill Skibbe (The Kills, Blonde Redhead, The Dead Weather) at the legendary Key Club Recording Company, the Ghouls have found that Eternity is today and blood in the sand is just mud.
