Radio One Chicago is a group of music-lovers dedicated to promoting exceptional local talent. We do this through a weekly radio show, as well as on our website. You can listen live every Thursday from 6 to 8 pm on 88.7FM WLUW.     This is CIMMfest, the Chicago International Movies & Music Festival—a four-day showcase of outstanding films, energetic concerts, visually stunning VJ/DJ sets, lively Q&A’s, daring live score performances, industry panels and presentations…anything to show just what movies and music mean to each other. Each Spring filmmakers, musicians, and their passionate fans alike, descend upon Wicker Park and Logan Square, two of Chicago’s most eclectic, vibrant neighborhoods. That’s where CIMMfest takes place—the films by day, the live music by night—at theaters, galleries, bars, concert spaces, and some of the city’s most storied venues. The films come from all countries and cultures, and range from documentaries to fiction to concert films to shorts to music videos.     Mike Petruccelli is a songwriter and musician located in Chicago, IL. He is an Ohio native and graduated from Ohio University for audio production. He has a minor in music as well. He arrived in Chicago in the summer of 2010 and has been playing shows and causing trouble since early 2011. His music has been released on Death to False Hope Records and also featured on compilations for Artistic Integrity Records and Johann’s Face Records. His bands Rapids and Tens both started in 2014 and are both currently active, playing around the Chicago area and throughout the Midwest. His latest release “Don’t Make This Weird” was released in January of 2016 and it was featured on AV Club, Punktastic’s POV segment, and Chicago Music. It took him 3.5 years to complete and is a labor of love.

The result is a collection of lush, kinetic songs that represent where Tiny Fireflies are now as musicians and as people.

    DownVega is an indie-pop trio from Chicago, Illinois, comprised of producer Jimmy Con (Comasoft, Ghosthouse), vocalist Beccy Schneider and Sam Lalk on bass. Brought together through a chance connection via craigslist, Beccy stumbled upon Jimmy’s ad soliciting a vocalist for a studio project. The two began writing in the spring of 2015 for their debut EP to be released on independent Toronto imprint, The Marigold Label. Drawing on the influence of artists like Chvrches, FKA Twigs and Whitney Houston, DownVega’s powerful debut single “Give You My Love” weaves Beccy’s sultry vocals with crystalline synthesizers and bold beats. The song evokes the tension of desire with lyrics of sympathetic longing — potent enough to glow in the dark.

    My Gold Mask started as an experimental home recording project between longstanding collaborators Gretta Rochelle and Jack Armondo. Since then the bands music has been featured in numerous blogs, fashion shows and on tv. But My Gold Mask’s true passion and focus has always been exploring new musical territory and growing as artists. Not concerned with classifications, My Gold Mask’s songs bring to mind their own unique blend of cross boundary influences while a unifying “dark pop” undercurrent threads together their ever growing catalog. In 2013 Gretta and Jack were joined by drummer James Andrew, who along with longtime producer Balthazar de Ley, has helped push the band into more electronic territory. Currently the band is focused on releasing a series of digital singles that piece by piece are completing a larger tapestry. Malafacha has 10 members, Moises- lead voice, Alejandro-drums, Ivan-sax and alto choirs, Ezequiel-bass, Abad-trombon, Jorge P. -trumpet, Armando-percussions, Jorge B. -timbales, Isaac-guitar and Charlie 1st guitar. All different personalities and musical tendencies between the band members has brought the band to obtain an original sound with a base of Ska, Reggae and Latin rhythms mixed with Punk, Metal, Cumbia, Rock, Disco and an endless fusion of genres that makes of Malafacha an unique band.

    The Chicago-area band has a catalog of “roughed-up power pop” with a quantity that is only outdone by its quality. Its 2010 premier album, “The Bishop,” initiated what would be a fast-growing career, followed close behind by the 2011 release of “Five Minutes of Panic and Thrills.” The latter album showcases the depth and range of the band’s songwriting talents with power pop rockers like “Promises Made” and “The Least”; ballads such as “Timebomb”; and the introspective, neo-psychedelic mood song “Mice and Elephants.” In 2013, when the self-titled “The Bishop’s Daredevil Stunt Club” hit the scene, the band began to truly come into its own and achieve critical acclaim.
