In this message we examine how Jude draws a link between the false prophets of the Old Testament right through his current time straight toward the false teachers we find in the church today. We look at how false prophets were dealt with in the Old Testament as well as the two main groups of false teaching that had infiltrated the early New Testament church.  That includes a short explanation of the Judiazer's and the Gnostic's and what they believed and taught and how it affected the early church. In this message, Jude reminds us that what makes a false leader or teacher so destructive is not always bad theology or doctrine, many times it is their behavior and actions that corrupts their message. We also need to remember that a false leader is not just a Pastor or Preacher, it can be a deacon or elder, or a staff member, or anyone in the church who strives to attain power or control. Some may ask why it should matter to me what other church leaders are teaching or other churches or denominations are teaching, as long as the church I attend and participate is standing on Biblical truth and doctrine. In our passage from Jude in this message we recognize that it matters to God and He takes false teaching and teachers very seriously and if it matters to God - it should matter to us. If we are all a part of the Universal Church and someone claiming to be a part of that church is teaching and supporting things that are contrary to scripture - it taints and diminishes the message of the Gospel for all of us and that should matter. What does Jude mean when he calls Christians to contend for the faith when facing false teachers and false teaching? More importantly, what does he not mean? For most of its history, Christianity and those who followed the teachings of Jesus were considered "dangerous" to kings, rulers and nations. When you look at the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul and all he endured and faced, it would be easy to describe him as a threat to the status quo and his life as dangerous. Yet in many parts of the world today, including North America, Christianity has become accommodating and comfortable, blending in with culture.
