From the new series on the 7 Churches of Revelation, here is the first one ... the introduction.

Only two times did Jesus call a persons faith "great" ... this is a look at the time with the centurion. What makes faith great? How does your faith measure up to this encounter?

Paul's words to those who are masters, those who are rich, and those who are people of God gives us principles to live by no matter who we are. One real important thing to get from this passage is the words we use are not as important as the principles we live by.

What does Paul exhort us to do in the treatment of Elders?

Paul gives Timothy some instructions on how to treat certain members of the church such as widows (which he separates into 4 kinds of widows). We can learn a good deal on how to treat certain ones in the church who need more ministry than others.

Paul instructs Timothy on what makes a good minister of the gospel. We can also derive from the list the qualities of a good follower of Christ.

What causes some to depart from the faith?

The qualifications for Deacons. How are they different from those for the overseer and what does a deacon do?

Looking at the qualifications of an overseer, we see qualities that are good to strive for in all of us. We look to try and clear up the meaning of each of these qualities since the wording seems very close.

In 1 Timothy 3 Paul list some qualifications for leaders, but the first one is easy to miss ... it must be something you desire!

Paul teaches us about praying for all men and rulers everywhere and the role of women in the church

Beginning at Ch. 1:18, looking at the things charged to each one of us, the prophecies made to Timothy and how that relates to some that may have been made to us, Paul’s dealings with people who did him harm, how to avoid shipwreck, and what the blaspheme of the Holy Spirit is. Lots to study on in these three verses!

The attitude of being “Thankful and Grateful” -- how important it is to our Christian walk, and yet so easy to get away from. Paul lists three things he is thankful for and, for the same reasons, we need to know what specifically we are thankful for. In these five verse, we see three things that will impact Timothy’s service for God, and also our own.
