Bringing knowledge to the academy that includes first-person narrative, lived experienced, and scholastic training to the topics surrounding immigration in the U.S. A space to provide counternarratives to the mainstream narratives around immigrants, undocumented youth, and the intersection of culture and academia.

    We will be telling the story of Carlos–a pseudonym given to protect his identity and privacy–while discussing the lasting psychological and health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on immigrant children. Despite the growing number of unaccompanied immigrant minors crossing the border, news on these instances has dwindled (Venta et al., 2023). Covering the experiences of immigrant minors during the pandemic remains necessary, as many are still dealing with the aftermath.

  • S5 Ep2: Historical Legacy of the 1997 Chandler Roundup

    The "Chandler Roundup" was a planned five-day operation (July 26 - July 31, 1997) carried out by the City of Chandler. The event involved the Police Department of the City of Chandler and the Border Patrol which at the time was a division of the Immigration Naturalization Services (INS). The results were that a total of 432 Latinx undocumented immigrants were deported and repatriated. This student group focused on contextualizing the historical legacy of this event in the Arizona landscape.

    Professor Martinez introduce our new season! This season will feature a co-taught Humanities Lab course by Dr. Rafael Martinez and Dr. José Causadias titled, "Families Living (Un)Documented. This podcast represents the public impact projects the students produced for the course.  The season is divided into two projects. First, students will produce podcasts examining the local historical events: The 1997 Chandler Round Up that had tremendous impact on immigrant and mixed-status families in Arizona.
