  • Ep. 29: John Cayer-End User First

    24/01/2020 Duración: 56min

Understanding what your users and customers need is important. It is the most important thing for President of Mueller Sports Medicine, John Cayer. We had the opportunity to sit down with John when we took our trip down to Mueller several weeks ago. John doesn’t have a traditional background in athletic training and sports medicine and has had an interesting journey to getting to where he is currently. John gives us all the background on how he ended up where he is today. The ideas and lessons John learned throughout his career, which has included many large companies and working with brands most of us use everyday has brought a lot of lessons. John continues to apply these lessons on a daily basis to help move Mueller Sports Medicine and himself forward. There are a lot of great takeaways in this episode, not just for the business side but also on how to approach your work, your team and your profession. • Ep. 28: Recoil-The Duct Tape of Athletic Training

    07/01/2020 Duración: 26min

Anytime we take a trip down to Mueller Sports Medicine we have to make sure we get to talk to Richard Avis. Richard is always thinking up something new whether is comes to a new product or at least how to use a product in a different way that people hadn’t though of yet. This time we were there, Richard wanted to give us a primer on the Recoil tape, the duct tape of athletic training. This video/episode talks about the versatility of this tape and how many things it can be used for within the athletic training profession. You’re really only limited by your imagination when it comes to the use of Recoil. From taping thumbs, to covering lacerations on the head in a wrestling match, to wrapping the handle of your bat. The options are endless. Check out some of the ideas Richard has and wants ATCs to try out. www.athletictrainingchat.com www.cliniallypressed.com SUBSCRIBE:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc3WyCs2lmnKK6shrL5A4hw?sub_confirmation=1 #ATchat #ATC #atimpact #at4all #boc #bocatc #athletictraining #athl

  • Ep. 27: Candid Athletic Training

    19/12/2019 Duración: 01h32min

When we kicked off ATChat there wasn’t much for Athletic Trainer podcasts and then there were several, another one right in Wisconsin. So we had to get together. In this episode we sit down with Chad and Kevan of the Candid Athletic Trainer podcast. We met up at Mueller Sports Medicine in the M Center to talk athletic training, how both of the podcasts got started and then we just let it go from there. We get into some of the best segments that Candid Athletic Trainer does including a Wisconsin themed best athletic trainer scenario. We also get in the ATChat five questions and really here the thoughts that Chad and Kevan bring behind their own opinions and information they put out on their podcast. This was a lot of fun and very entertaining. Check it out and we hope you enjoy. www.athletictrainingchat.com www.cliniallypressed.com SUBSCRIBE:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc3WyCs2lmnKK6shrL5A4hw?sub_confirmation=1 #ATchat #ATC #atimpact #at4all #boc #bocatc #athletictraining #athletictrainingchat #health #me

  • Ep. 26: A DIII Experience

    11/12/2019 Duración: 29min

There are becoming an endless variety of settings for athletic trainers to work in. Coming up in a lot of young careers are the idea of working in Division I and the professional ranks. These goals are not bad in any regard but they may not always be what they think and there can be a misconception of working at other places that could provide just as unique and rewarding experiences. In this short episode we talk about the Division III experience and how it has been going for Austin who is just finishing up a semester long immersion and Joel, who has been in this setting for the past 6 years. We talk about the ups and the down and why Joel has been here after being Division I for a time and what Austin thinks about what he has gone through so far with the experience and where he might go in the future. www.athletictrainingchat.com www.cliniallypressed.com SUBSCRIBE:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc3WyCs2lmnKK6shrL5A4hw?sub_confirmation=1 #ATchat #ATC #atimpact #at4all #boc #bocatc #athletictraining #athlet

  • Ep. 25: Cody Tesch-ATC in Fire Service

    27/11/2019 Duración: 01h02min

Emerging settings in athletic training continue to evolve and in some cases they have ‘emerged’ (listen to the episode). Cody Tesch is on the front end of one of those settings, fire services. Cody is one of a handful of full-time athletic trainers that are dedicated to the service and care of a city’s fire fighter services and the steps Cody has made and where things are going are set to make an impact. In this episode we talk about what exactly Cody’s role in this type of setting is. We get very deep into how it has taken some effort for Cody to establish himself as a resource for this group and had to fight some long-held beliefs. Cody has had to work to gain the trust of the fire fighters and show them that he is there to help, not hold them out. We also discuss how Cody is advocating for the profession to demonstrate the skills necessary to workman’s compensation cases and beyond. So much to take away from this episode. www.athletictrainingchat.com www.cliniallypressed.com SUBSCRIBE:https://www.youtube.c

  • Ep. 24: Joanne Kinyon-Collaborative Medical Model in the High School Setting

    23/11/2019 Duración: 39min

A collaborative medical model is ideal in so many settings. It takes a lot to get it there though. Not only do you have to have the resources to make it happen you have to find the right people that want to work together. In this episode we get to talk to Joanne Kinyon, an athletic trainer, who works at Bishop O Dowd High School. While BOD is not your “typical” high school the model they have established can be applied a lot of places. We talk about ideas on how schools on almost any level can look at nutrition, strength and conditioning and monitoring. All these factors can be looked at and set up for little to no cost. The creative ways that BOD has implemented multiple processes that allow for the entire staff to help the athletes not only achieve a high level of performance but also to recovery and reduce injury risk. • Ep. 14: ESPN Article-ATC Leadership

    12/07/2019 Duración: 13min

ESPN recently put out an article and video on Outside the Lines highlighting some of the issues that come along when coaches clout starts to influence how athletic trainers do their job. The story was based on a survey by the NATA looking at athletic training interaction with coaches and administrators and how that effected their ability to practice and if there was any interference. The results were shocking. In this short episode we do a quick talk on these issues and some of things we are looking at in how “the tides can be turned”. We discussed how we can see ourselves on the same level as coaches and why it is important to make sure we are establishing that we work “with” our coaches and not “for” coaches. Some of these simple words can have deep meaning when it comes to how you are perceived and how you perceive yourself.
