The Husker247 Podcast started on a somber note on Tuesday as the the group remembered Mike Leach for his unique blend of personality and air raid football. The long time college football coach faced Nebraska six times in his career and appeared on the radio despite never coaching in Lincoln. Following the look back on Leach’s legacy the podcast shifts to conversations about Nebraska’s recruiting efforts, its latest commitments and the big visit weekend that featured a number of commits and targets all in Lincoln at the same time.  Everything gets wrapped up with a little basketball talk following a tough 0-2 start in Big Ten play but a game against Purdue that went into overtime and showcased the energy in Pinnacle Bank Arena that’s largely been absent throughout Fred Hoiberg’s tenure as the head coach. It’s a big recruiting edition of the Husker247 podcast as the first half of the episode features Mike Schaefer and Michael Bruntz, before 247Sports analyst Andrew Ivins joins to talk about Matt Rhule’s recruiting, new commit Brice Turner and several of Nebraska’s weekend visitors.  Despite the heavy recruiting talk the podcast actually starts with Tony White as Nebraska’s next defensive coordinator. Nebraska football played Michigan on Saturday and fell in a 34-3 game that probably wasn’t as far apart as the score indicated but not as close either.  Gary Sharp joined Mike Schaefer to break the game down and discuss how the Huskers got to this point, if Michigan was a markedly different team than 2021 where the Huskers hung close and, of course, a conversation about the quarterback decision and quarterback play.  Eventually conversation shifted to what things look like going forward, who the next coach needs to focus on to keep on the roster and the development of a young defense that looks like a bright spot for the Huskers. Another Sunday. Another conversation about a Nebraska team that failed to seize an opportunity right in front of it.  On Saturday for almost a half the Huskers were in position to be holding a lead and threatening, maybe, to even push it to a two score lead against a ranked team. After forcing a three-and-out and with good field position the Huskers had the perfect play. And it was dropped. Two plays later the game flipped. Two plays after that the score flipped.
