Producer Ted Green joins John in-studio to talk about his upcoming WFYI documentary on Crispus Attucks High School. He'll be joined on the phone by Pat Payne, whose family history is deeply intertwined with the Attucks story.

Handling domestic violence in the LGBTQ Community. In the past year, several local agencies have updated their policies, procedures, and received training on serving the LGBTQ+ community. For those who experience physical abuse, sexual violence, and emotional trauma, there are agencies ready to serve, having sought the training and guidance to best do so. WalkWays is the initiative to make Indianapolis more walkable and get more people walking. The City of Indianapolis, Marion County Public Health Department and members of the Health by Design coalition comprise the WalkWays team. This week kicks off a series of public meetings to learn what the people of Marion County believe should be priorities in the walking plan. Working under the premise that a great city needs a strong transit system, IndyConnect has been in the works for years. Now some of its key elements are closer to fruition. News about the federal funding request for construction of the Red Line rapid transit route is imminent, and Friday 2/5 was the first public meeting on the city-wide plan to scale up service to better connect workers with jobs, appeal to Millennial talent and create new development in neighborhoods across the city. Guests: Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry and David Sklar, Jewish Community Relations Council. Many people believe we have a hate crime law in Indiana and are surprised to learn we do not. Prosecutor Curry is a member of a coalition advocating for a change in Indiana law this year that would include a provision regarding bias or hate motivation to an existing list of aggravators that a prosecutor can present to the judge during a sentencing argument (after the conviction is entered by trial or plea agreement). Indiana is one of only five states without any hate or bias crime law, and we believe this is a necessary addition to the state criminal code. The Jewish Community Relations Council, Urban League, Muslim Alliance of Indiana, and Concerned Clergy are just a few of the groups involved in this effort.

Guests: John Mead, Dave Carter, and Ace Yakey. These Hoosiers were in Nepal in April 2015, taking in the views of Mt. Everest, when a deadly earthquake struck. They came away unscathed but were moved to help with relief efforts after villages were destroyed and more than 8,500 people killed. This show precedes the Wednesday night premiere of NOVA's Himalayan Megaquake.

In December, the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee and the Arts Council of Indianapolis unveiled the newest addition to the Indianapolis Cultural Trail: A Legacy of Gene and Marilyn Glick, on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). The installation, aptly entitled "Talking Wall" was concepted and designed by Indiana artist Bernard Williams and invites an open-ended conversation about the African-American history of Indianapolis. Unique to the installation is the viewer interaction. The installation offers the opportunity to both literally and figuratively walk in the shadows of Indianapolis' heroic ancestors and cultural icons. A community conversation in response to the difficult issue of bullying, one of the most challenging issues among today's young adults and adolescents. Discuss with community partners from the Indiana Youth Group, Men's and Women's Chorus, Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis, corporate support groups, Butler University and Brother's United as they share with us how Indianapolis is getting better for youth, post high school/college age and young professionals.
