Valerie is on Beyond Celiacs patient and family advisory council. She is a Junior at Vanderbilt University and has celiac disease. In this weeks podcast Valerie talks about her journey getting diagnosed with celiac disease and the challenges she faced when looking at colleges.

Most people who get diagnosed with celiac disease don't go back to their doctor for follow up care, shows a study done by Beyond Celiac and researchers from Columbia and Vanderbilt universities. Patients manage the diet and deal with whatever symptoms they suffer on their own. But what are the consequences? Is celiac disease silently doing damage that could lead to other autoimmune conditions? Are they being deprived of important vitamins and minerals?
