Inside The Disney Vault

We take a step in time over to Walt’s self proclaimed crown jewel of his career- it’s Mary Poppins, of course! Heather Woodward (@woodwardheather on Instagram don’t even TRY Twitter) joins us to gush as we try to find things to say about this beloved classic that haven’t been said a million times over. Dick Van Dyke? CHARMING! Julie Andrews? PERFECT IN EVERY WAY! All facial expressions? OVER THE TOP AND DEAD ON! We have some questions about what the HECK Mary is and what rules her magic goes by. We watched every movie in chronological order and talked about ‘em. What comes next!?

An ITDV first, we take a trip to the MOVIE THEATER (in the vault, of course) to see a brand new release with fellow podcaster Patrick Ehlers! Our pals Ralph and Vanellope are back, now living harmonious lives, LO, they must now journey across the wild west of the INTERNET. We enter a whirlwind of meme wishes and cameo dreams that leave our heads spinning in Disney fangirl bliss.

We roadtrip through the vault, to a movie that needs no introduction- *BUM BA DADA DA DA BUM BA DADA DA DA DA* (Intro to I2I)-- A Goofy Movie, where we find the delightful Anais Fairweather (@anaisaimee), actor and Goofy Movie skeptic. Max just wants to do his thing and be a kid and get the girl and listen to Powerline tunes, but his GOOFY dad, Goofy, keeps getting in the way.

What’s this!? We have a ton of fun with Alex Lewis (@i8athumbtack) and Hughie Stone Fish (@Hughiestonefish) of Lewberger (@lewberger) who we happen upon in a spoOoky section of the vault, just in time for Halloween! Wait, is it Halloween or Christmas we’re celebrating in this Nightmare Before Christmas? Jack, tall skeleton antihero and king of the pumpkins, gets bored with his ho-hum horror driven life and decides to appropriate Christmas.

We turn around and travel back to a different time in the vault, joined by Illustrator and Comedian David Kantrowitz (@DavidKantrowitz) in a very educational section. We follow Benchley on a tour of Disney studios on his quest to pitch a story to Walt Disney- they’ll take any idea! We learn about animation, voice over, sound effects, storyboards, and sexism in the workplace.

Wow! We did it, y’all! Thanks in no small part to YOU! We watched all 56 Disney Animated features (in chronological order) and talked about ‘em. Now we talk about ‘em some more as we rate our highs, lows, and favorites in various categories. We cover music, characters, sidekicks, and you know we mention Kanine Krunchies. BUT WAIT, the vault doesn’t end there. We peep a new door and walk through, but you’ll have to stay tuned in to catch where we’re headed next!

Kelly Nugent (@kellynugee) hops into the vault and aboard our boat to help restore the heart of Te Fiti. We marvel at the purity and beauty in storytelling that takes a piece of an old legend and crafts it into the brave ocean voyager badass we see gracing so much CLASSIC banana merch today. We’re talkin’ Moana! Representing for our FIRST Polynesian princess (“princess?”)!

Jessica Jean Jardine (@JJJLA) joins us as we bop along to the true BANGER, “Try Everything” and marvel at all the levels of allegory Zootopia operates on. Everyone can live harmoniously in Zootopia, right!? Well, not every fuzzy animal’s as innocent as they seem. Judy’s a little bunny who’s been told she can’t be a cop, Nick’s a sly fox who’s run cons most of his life. The two MUST pair up to prove they’re both capable of being heroes, no matter their background.

We find writer, performer, and nonprofit founder Jenny Jaffe (@jennyjaffe) in the vault and- GET THIS, Jenny wrote for Big Hero 6 The Series, so she really knows her stuff! We battle bots with brainiac Hiro, get a health assessment from squeezable robot Baymax, and form a team of techno genius superheroes with the rest of Hiro’s new friends. We MARVEL at the beautiful world of San Fransokyo, well crafted storytelling, and truly surprising (and sympathetic) villain.

Brady O'Callahan (@bradyocallahan) famous supporter of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Atlantis: The Lost Empire, joins us to reconcile some differing opinions. We also hear from YOU, THE LISTENERS, in our first ever call-in segment to discuss alternate takes and other thoughts of your own. Teresa Lee (@leresatee) defrosts by the fire with us, discussing friends, sisters, good versus evil, and whether or not “Let it Go” is a good song (mixed opinions). A return to the musical, but twist on its structure keeps us on our frozy toesies as we marvel at and discuss Frozen’s lore and why it’s (STILL) such a phenomenon. Anna wants to prove Elsa’s not an icy-hearted bitch, continuing to bug her even though Elsa’s made it very clear she just wants to be left alone.

Hector Navarro (@hectorisfunny) joins us as Ralph tries to break free of his 8-bit world. Ralph doesn’t want to be a bad guy anymore and fights off evil Nicelanders, giant bugs, and candy coated villains to prove he’s true. Hector and Oscar showcase their video game knowledge in a world that combines familiar games with brand new ones and sympathetic characters so sweet they’ll give you a sugar rush.

Real life Winnie the Pooh, Matt Apodaca (@mattapodaca) joins us for another trip to the Hundred Acre Wood. Everyone’s back to their own typical “thing,” although Kanga is straight up over it and we’re worried about Eeyore’s deep depression. Is he okay? He’s not okay! This time, we follow one big mishap as Pooh and the gang evade the notorious (and totally fabricated) Backson!

Jackie Rae Aubel (@jackieisawuesom‏) and Amanda Salvatore (@ASalvatore902) of the Guilty Pleasure podcast (@guiltypleasurepodcast) throw down their hair for us as we swing off on the adventure of a (Rapunzel’s) lifetime! Some of us are wooed by Flynn Rider, while we’re all confounded by the “magic” of “possible” “witch,” Mother Gothel. The real message here is that blonde hair is magical, brunette hair is bad, and girl you can have as many dreams as you need!

Marcy Jarreau (@MarcyLane) goes down the bayou with us where lightning bugs boogie, alligators trumpet, and voodoo shadows creep through the night. Look, all Tiana wants is to own her OWN restaurant and make beignets and gumbo topped with whipped cream. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR? Yes, because accidental frog, Prince Naveen, accidentally turns Tiana into a frog, halting the restaurant plan.

We welcome relationship EXPERT and host of podcast Why Won't You Date Me?, Nicole Byer (@nicolebyer) into the vault to talk about ~love~ and the probability of certain Disney couples lasting long term. We laugh nonstop as Nicole shares her brilliant bumble pick-up lines, fondness of swimming pools, and the most hilarious moment in Disney history. We have Nicole take a quiz to find her Disney match, so she can triumphantly end her quest for love.

Illustrator and podcaster Kyle Frieze joins us for an improbable homeward bound adventure. Penny and Bolt are action/ adventure/ scifi (??) TV stars whose show is produced a la The Truman Show, because the DOG needs to believe it’s ALL REAL. When Bolt inadvertently escapes the humane society’s nightmare of a set, he must learn to be a dog in the real world from a...CAT with a… HAMSTER sidekick!

Keith Kingbay (@KeithKingbay) joins us on a high concept time travel journey. Orphan brainiac Lewis learns about his past via Wilbur, a mysterious kid from the future, who crashes Lewis’ science fair. We travel to the future where boy, oh boy, do we meet the Robinsons...so many Robinsons... who are all just so quirky and random... that we cannot remember half of them. All the while, we’re chased by the bumbling Bowler Hat Guy from the future with a mission and secret of his own.

The ebullient Riley Westling (@RileyWestling) joins us as the sky is falling, but WHAT’S THAT!? ALIENS!?!??? The possibly delusional and definitely neglected Chicken Little tries to recover from an incident the entire town shames him for. However, we’ve got much larger problems than the sky falling in the first fully CG Disney movie, like a lackluster story.
