The lovely Olivia Grace calls us and we get to play her latest track, Blackbird. It's a bit of a change stylistically, and we're loving it!

Yaneli talks to the members of So Pretty about empowerment by music. It's a touching discussion in which all the members say how they have been affected by working with each other.

ESSO (El Sonido Sonic Octopus) perform funky Afro-Latino and roots rock inspired dance music. The ethnically diverse crew of musicians establish rustic polyrhythmic grooves and combine biting twang guitars with the strength of brass horns, coro group singing, and urban poetry. Members: Armando Pérez, Kevin Miller, Dan Lieber, Ezra Lange, Julian Harris, Diana Mosquera, Puerko Pitzotl, Juan Lugo and Luis Tubens all bring a vital cultural contribution to the band’s unique “afrojam funkbeat” sound. Inspired by the Chicago streets that radiate: blues, jazz, house, and global thinkers that praise unity through consciousness, the band unapologetically believes in the healing nature/power of music. Having just released their full length self-titled debut album, the city is listening back.

The Trick Shooter Social Club is a place tucked just behind the beat. It’s a belief in the power of story and the sublime hip sway of a well placed middle eight. It’s cat gut, and pick guards and nods across the stage when it’s time to go to the bridge. It’s acoustic, electric and reverent to its heroes. SUBSTANCE hit the ground running releasing their first mix tape “Raw Substance” Hosted by Dj Shaun T. During this time they developed buzz worthy notoriety through performances throughout the Midwest. They also received the award of best local hip hop group at the “Midwest Rappers Ball” at the Regal Theater. They established a respectable following and then released the now critically acclaimed mixtape “Substance Muzik”. They also released their “Substance Abuse” mixtape, which is the final installment of their “Substance Series” mixtapes. K'Valentine began her lyrical journey by writing poetry to get out emotions she wanted to express. After a chance meeting with world renowned poet laureate Dr. Maya Angelou before she passed, K'Valentine was encouraged to practice until she mastered her craft. On the advice of Dr. Angelou, K wrote poetry non-stop, and those poems eventually transitioned into songs.
