Superman #282 (1974)In this predictably insane Bronze Age tale, Superman gets young via a Lex Luthor ray and starts doing improv with Perry White. He then goes on an acid trip and imagines Lex Luger’s face in the sky challenging him to a fight. In the ensuing battle, Superman gets ultra dense and burrows down into the earth with Lex, having a nice swim in some lava. Phantom Stranger [Vol 2] #37 (1975)A hapless cabbie is forced by an escaping crook to run over Phantom Stranger and his skinny legs. When that goes awry, the poor lady gets shot, forcing her loud husband to take an unethical gig faking a sarcophagus. When THAT goes awry, the husband and Phantom Stranger have to walk the plank into a boiling vat of Gatorade. Thankfully, the dude becomes a mad mummy and starts press-slamming villains like Butch Reed. X-Men: Curse of the Man-Thing #1 (2021)A disturbed woman has performed Sub-Zero’s finisher on Man-Thing and is currently living his body, WEEKEND AT BERNIE’s style. Flammable spores have infiltrated the globe’s metropolitan areas, immolating jabroni citizens and generally being gross to look at. X-Man #20 (1996)X-MAN is about Nate, who looks like a Chad and has some serious telepathic / telekinetic powers. He’s probably related to Cyclops or Cable somehow but hell if we know what’s going on there. The Outsiders [vol 2] #0 (1994)Post Zero Hour, when everything’s all screwed up, Eradicator assumes leadership of the Outsiders team in LA. Halo embarrasses herself in front of the youth at the Beverly Center while Looker has a blood smoothie by the pool. Marvel Spotlight #14 (1974)Daimon Hellstrom returns home from a wild night of being a demon offspring to scare the hell out of his milkman. He gets a call to come to St. Louis to check out a local college’s communications building that has being haunted by ice demons living in the walls and messing with the college radio station playlists. Blackwulf #1 (1994)This week, we delve into some random 90s excess with Blackwulf, Marvel’s attempt to get the Deviants over for a spell. Blackwulf ends up being two dudes - the rebellious Plops and the future monkey man Lucian. One guy’s got a glowing sword, the other has a glowing stick but neither has any charisma. Justice League International [vol 2] #53 (1993)In this week's book, Crimson Fox reunites with her previously dead husband because she can’t get enough of his kleptomaniac stroke. Metamorpho’s all torn up about it so he dresses like Robert Stack in UNSOLVED MYSTERIES and terrorizes cabbies throughout Paris. King In Black: Thunderbolts #1 (2021)Look at us….covering a comic in the current decade!The world - and specifically New York City - is covered in alien goo so Mayor Kingpin is like “I’ll do a Suicide Squad thing but even more corrupt.” So he grabs Taskmaster, Mister Fear and a few other jabronis and has them go find Norman Osborn and his weird hair to help them. Secret Origins [vol 2] #21 (1987)Two stories in one today as we first explore the origin of infamous cowboy corpse, Jonah Hex. Twisted curio collector Ian McKellan and hired goon Donal Logue are here to shake down Jonah’s elderly wife for rights to his stuffed corpse but ’92 Jeff Goldblum is here to save the day.Then later, we learn about the original Black Condor. Starting out as an obese baby, Condor became irradiated by a meteor and learned to fly, going around fighting eagles and stuff. Jack Kirby’s Secret City Saga #2 (1993)From the mind of a comic book legend comes the Secret City, a lost civilization from 15000 years ago that was buried under Chicago. Upon their re-emergence, the more nefarious citizens kidnap Bill Clinton and and have him replaced with a sarcastic shapeshifter. Sensational She-Hulk #26 (1991)She-Hulk is hired to defend Excalibur's Meggan when Meggan turns into a trash monster and runs amok in a Nando’s. The caveat here is now is that CAPTAIN BRITAIN has now been possessed by trash to the point where he’s just sitting around eating it. Like used wrappers and apple cores and all that. DC Comics Presents #43 (1982)Superman is harassed by his co-workers because he opts to have a wistful stare out of a window rather than talk to that yutz Jimmy Olson. He thinks he sees a Sun Eater and he’s correct but gets ambushed by Mongul. Mongul traps Clark in a glass case of emotion so its up to the Legion of Super-Heroes to figure it all out. Secret Defenders #15 (1994)Doctor Strange is stuck in a sanctum beneath the earth’s core and he has no facial hair so he is not equipped to handle his usual Secret Defenders duties. He calls upon general scumbag hero Doctor Druid and his immense Rogaine top-knot to defend the earth against Malachi, the villainess with Wolverine hair and giant hoop earrings. Joining the team is Chicago art museum security guard for hire Luke Cage and Kathy Ireland paramour Deadpool. Metamorpho: Year One #4 (2008)We join Rex Mason in his first year as Metamorpho, a being with one leg made of pudding and another made of Miracle Whip. He’s tired of being forced to live in seclusion due to his lack of noise so Simon Stagg gives him a life-like mask and an opportunity to have sex with his daughter. Vision and the Scarlet Witch #1 (1982)WANDAVISION is upon us so let's take a look at the WrestleMania of Vision/Scarlet Witch stories. Here, Viz and Wanda move to Jersey on Halloween and Vision’s out there sticking his hands in all the kids' bags and what not. They try to copulate but Jarvis cuts them off. Then Samhain (the goat man, not Danzig and friends) shows up to possess teenager extras from HALLOWEEN III and cause some havoc.
