Rabbi Steve Berkson concludes the book of the Prophet Ezekiel in part 39 of The Heart of the Matter series. In chapter 20 we see YHWH continuing the chastise the leaders of Judea for allowing their hearts to turn to idolatry. YHWH reminds them that He is theirElohim and that they need no other. He gave them His Torah so that they would live and not die, but the disobedience continued. As YHWH sees it, disobedience is equal to rebellion which is equal to idolatry. Rabbi Berkson explains verse 25, which by some hasbeen misunderstood, that says, “And I also gave them up to laws that were not good, and right-rulings by which they would not live.” Chapter 36 is full of wonderful promises of finally entering the Age to Come as YHWH will gather Israel, replace our stony heartswith hearts of flesh and sprinkle clean water on us.
