'We are deeply and profoundly sorry': British PM formally apologises to women over forced adoption policy

Informações:

Sinopsis

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has issued a formal apology to women who were forced to give up their babies under a historical policy in the country. An estimated 185,000 children were separated from their mothers under this system, which was in place largely between 1949 and 1976 and involved the participation of Christian churches. Similar apologies have also been made in Australia and Ireland for comparable past policies. More recently, the Dutch cabinet has issued an apology this week for its own forced separation and adoption practices that took place between the 1950s and the 1980s.
