One of the coolest sports stories of the young new year was Golden State Warrior Pat Spencer being guarded by his younger brother, Memphis Grizzlies rookie Cam Spencer, in a game on Saturday, Jan. 4. It was the latest crescendo of a pair of incredible athlete journeys that were heavily influenced on the lacrosse fields at Boys' Latin (Md.) and Loyola University Maryland. After winning the Tewaaraton Award in 2019, Spencer played a year of basketball at Northwestern and has since worked his way through the NBA G-League to sign a two-way contract with the Warriors. Meanwhile, Cam — who also played lacrosse for the Lakers — started his college basketball career at Loyola, then transferred to Rutgers before finishing his career as a national champion with UConn in April.
