St. Valentine was a Roman Catholic Priest at a time when Claudias was an Emperor who persecuted the church without mercy. During Claudias’ time an edict that prohibited the marriage of young people was passed. Claudias was of the belief that unmarried soldiers would serve in battle than married ones since they had no care hanging on them. St. Valentine secretly went against Claudias’ verdict by marrying young people. Valentine was eventually caught, imprisoned and tortured for breaking the Emperor’s edict.
