Say HiChrist made seven statements on the cross. His Sixth statement on the cross is what we shall be looking at this morning. This sixth statement was observed by H.L. Wilmington to be one word in the original Greek -tetelestai. Tetelastai means “it was finished and as a result it is forever done.”The phrase "it is finished" is also “the kind a painter or sculptor would use after putting finishing touches to the vivid landscape or the marble bust; he would then stand back a few feet to admire the masterpiece, and seeing in it nothing that calls for correction or improvement, would exclaim fondly and with delight, Tetelestai! Tetelestai!”It is important to note that Jesus said- “It is finished” and not ‘I am finished.’ This was more of a statement of accomplishment rather than one of regret and sorrow. “Christ completed all that was necessary in order to accomplish the plan of redemption.”The Greek word translated finish here is teleo.
