You may not expect that a small, neighborhood pub with comic book wallpaper, Star Trek on a big screen, and customers in cosplay would have some of the best cocktails in the city, perhaps the country. But that’s what The Nerd Out aimed to do when it opened in Portland’s Belmont neighborhood in December 2017. Since then, this small pub has grown a community and a pop culture inspired menu of craft cocktails. Owner Mitch Gillam argues his bar now has the best (Spider) Manhattan in Portland, and perhaps the best White Russian in America.
