A Jewish rebellion, called the Maccabean Revolt, c. 167-160 B.C., resulted in an overthrow of the Greek invasion and oppression of the Jewish people as well as Hellenistic compromises of Jewish worship. Jerusalem was recaptured and it was then time to rededicate the Temple in 164 B.C.
