Gary Blair: The Prodigal Pharisee The first son was a rebel and wasted his inheritance to prodigal living. The second son was a pharisee, and wasted his inheritance to prodigal living. He wasted his inheritance because he never experienced it, for he was so busy trying to earn it that he couldn’t receive it. He is angered by the father’s generosity towards his rebel brother in restoring him as a son, but he is unwilling to receive the father’s generosity and so does not live as a son. Though in the home, he lives as a slave and not a son. He tries to find his significance, acceptance and security in his own performance rather than receiving it freely from his father.

Brett Holding: Friend or Fling Do your friends actually like you, or just how you make them feel? Are the people we give our time and energy to really that important, or are we actually most interested in what we can get out of them? When we’re brutally honest, we’re pretty bad at friendships because we’re pretty consumeristic about them. God has a different way of doing relationships that avoids shallow and avoids needy co-dependance, this week we’ll investigate true friendship not just fling-ship.

Each week, we will be looking at one aspect of our Enjoy God, Love People, Release Potential and Impact community vision statement. Our prayer is that as we remind ourselves about the why, we will see people in our community getting clearer about their why and how that fits into the vision of the church to see greater and greater impact in our city.

Is anyone really what they seem? What if everyone is actually an alien inside a realistic human suit and I’m the only normal one? These are common questions that many of us ask. Even when we have lots in common relationships are a high stakes game with no guarantees, but God also created us male and female, and uniquely different, which adds even more beautiful complexity.
