The biker will put the well-being of his machine far above his  own. I have seen men cry over a bent bike, or after an accident tell the  driver off for hitting his bike rather than him. I have personally  fought off two ambulance men so that I could hop to my bike to inspect  the damage before being taken to hospital. My theory for this strange  bond is that the motorcycle and rider form a sort of Gestalt being, a  complete entity, either part of which is incomplete or useless without  the other. Louise Garman celebrated her 102nd birthday Friday. For her party at her retirement community, she had cake, music, and a group of motorcyclists show up to give her a ride around. When asked why she chose motorcycles for her wish, she said, “my friend took me for a ride in Oklahoma. Then on my 95th birthday, my grandson took me on his motorcycle down in Houston. So I love motorcycles.” Garman credits says her secret to living for 102 years is, “oh maybe being around interesting people, positive people. BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Several different chapters of the Red Knights Motorcycle Club gathered to honor the final wish of their late member Merlon “Junior” Sylvester. The Red Knights began their ride at the Albion Fire station. Where Junior served for twenty years. Junior was known to be a bit of a trickster and a jokester by his family and friends. But most notably had a heart of gold. “He loved the Red Knights. He spent a lot of time riding with them. He was really proud of being in the military, loved his family. He, you know, has three kids and numerous grandkids and loved them all to death,” said Junior’s daughter Margi Sylvester. His final wish was for his estate to be given to the Children’s Miracle Network after his death. The Red Knights wouldn’t let him down. A motorcycle club based out of Minot will be honoring the memory of a guardsman who lost his battle with PTSD in 2007. Those who served with Joe Biel took some time to share their memories of him with me. They discussed how they’ve kept his memory alive over the past 14 years and will continue to do so later this month. In 2010, June 27 became known as National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Day. It’s the same day as the birthday of the late Joe Biel, who served as a Staff Sergeant in the North Dakota Air National Guard. “Joe Biel that I served with over in Iraq is one of my best bests friends and we got home from Iraq in 2006,” said Adam Ritchie. But for many service members, the war does not end when they return home. “And in April of 2007 he actually committed suicide,” said Ritchie. Worthy was born with spina bifida and is paralyzed from the armpits down, but there was no stopping his dream. Sunday’s shooting on  the freeway involved people associated with the Hells Angels and the  Vagos gangs, police in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson said in a  statement. Officers found “multiple subjects who had sustained  gunshot wounds” and six people were taken to a hospital, the statement  said. A seventh injured person arrived at a hospital was confirmed to be  involved in the shooting, the statement said. It was not clear whether all the injured people suffered gunshot wounds. The Sturgis Chapter of the Soldiers for Jesus Christ Motorcycle Club held its first annual Biker Blessing at the Little White Church in Hill City. The event started with signup and registration, then switched over to a sermon — finishing with the bikers going for a ride to Mount Rushmore. After the ride, roughly 40 bikers sat down for a meal at the church, provided by local businesses like Krull’s Market and more. Scooter Prosneski, the organizer, started the Biker Blessing after already having run the event in California for 15 years at his church there. Speaking of community support, during their ride to Mount Rushmore, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office blocked off portions of the road all the way up to the monument.
