Dr. Brené Brown’s 2018 book “Dare to Lead: Brave work. Tough conversations. Whole hearts” highlights two of her most prominent topics; namely, courage and vulnerability. From a recovery ministry perspective, this book can be interpreted as a treatise on faith (i.e. dare to lead), sanctification (i.e. brave work), confession (i.e. tough conversations), and restoration (i.e. whole hearts). This leadership challenge is essentially an exhortation for leaders to extend grace and truth resulting in restored hearts and productivity. This audiobook allows listeners to experience the background behind her grounded theory research. She candidly explains the good, embarrassing, and the ugly parts of her research. The two go together like a horse and carriage... Sharing the gospel is easy; sharing my life is rough. I can share gospel truths all day and never become vulnerable and transparent. I think the power of the Apostle Paul's words to the believers in Thessalonika is that he went deep with them. I can't imagine that he stood on a soapbox in Thessalonika and presented propositional truths, which resulted in life transformation. I CAN imagine they sat around old school living rooms and shared personal testimonies of what Jesus did in their lives and how he set them free. People trusted God and shared in the midst of a group. He also poured his life into them. On so many levels he shared his life. I believe this is why he said he not only shared the gospel but his life as well. So this is a major theme for my family. We're gonna share the gospel and our lives and I'll never go back. Who's in!?

Parents: Is our job really to ensure that our kids are "making good decisions" or is there something more? Our job is to create an environment where our children are free to choose God. We are to also create an environment where they can experience healing the day after something happens in the world. What more could I give them than to offer them freedom to choose God. To offer anything more than God is to actually offer them less. Thoughts?
