I am sure you noticed that what you argue about is never really the reason for the argument. Couples don’t break up because one of them did not empty the dishwasher... It seems there is always something bigger, something unacknowledged that is overshadowing the apparent topic of the argument. Right? There is a story I have been wanting to tell for a few days, but I was too busy pinching myself because I couldn’t believe what was actually happening.   Ok, it’s time… Last week, when getting to my desk, there was a package on the table. I have no idea how it got here. It had “Cosmic” written on it. So I opened it. There was a postcard in there, handwritten with a sort of weird glowing ink that I had to put in the sunlight for maximum clarity. I couldn’t believe what was written on it, and what else was in this package... Thank you for tuning in.

“Things have never been so good for humanity” “There’s never been a better time to be alive” “We’ve never had it so good than right now”. These couple of lines are very meaningful because when we accept this narrative as a truth, we open the door to a legion of story monsters that invade culture and society’s common sense. In connection to this episode I am featuring the work of Scott Listfield, who’s known for his paintings featuring a lone exploratory astronaut lost in a landscape cluttered with pop culture icons, corporate logos, and tongue-in-cheek science fiction references. It’s a great way to reflect on the present, the past and the future maybe? Remember it starts with the words we pick, and the stories we chose to tell. In the art space, when a gallery or museum showcases work about #social or #environmental issues, there sometimes is an uncomfortable contradiction between the context and messages conveyed by the art pieces on display, and what the exhibition space emanates.
