The shepherds seem to play a small side role in the Christmas story. But God included them so we could learn from them, and we are so glad He did! Their story reveals the good news that brings great joy for all people.

When you hear the Christmas story, you might be tempted to assume that the miraculous circumstances surrounding the birth of Jesus were wondrous and welcome to everyone involved. Of course, the real story is much complicated. The people who lived out the first Christmas had to learn to trust God in the middle of an unexpected and dangerous situation. Their faith serves as an example to us when we find ourselves in the middle of unexpected and unwelcome situations of our own!

God wants to do extraordinary things in our lives. But what if we don't think of ourselves as particularly special? What if we are just ... ordinary? Can God use us too?
