Finding Stax

Just messing around and decided to cover two amazing songs by two of the greatest influential bands ever, The Misfits and Pennywise. This does not do the original songs justice by any means, I just admire the talent and passion behind these gems and wanted to show my appreciation.

This is the episode where Finding STAX chats it up with Kevin Rahm who stars in shows like Lethal Weapon, Mad Men and Desperate Housewives just to name a few. We talk about working in kitchens, golfing, living in Shreveport, and even a story about a litter box gets thrown in there, too. On this fifty-ONEth episode I have the pleasure of meeting up with the hard working band Pinata Protest from San Antonio, TX. Lead singer and accordionist Alvarao Del Norte, bassist Richie Brown, and touring drummer Diego AKA Chrisruptive share touring stories, the history of the name Pinata Protest, having their own beer named after them by local brewing company Freetail Brewing, and having a few of their own songs being featured on a soundtrack for the movie Me Estas Matando Susana (You're Killing Me Susana) starring Gael Bernal Garcia. We also discuss their upcoming EP being released called Cuatro Exitos that will launch the beginning of their national tour including some dates in Mexico, the group's side project Los Callejeros de San Anto, relationships and touring, and tons of other can't miss convos. This is the episode where Alex and Steve Dave chat it up Daniel (Lead Vocals, Guitar) and Bryan (Drums) from the band The Vegabonds from Nashville, TN. They discuss the infant stages of the band, then moving from Alabama to Nashville, TN to grow the band, followed by teaming up with a Grammy Nominated producer for their last album "What We're Made Of". Also in the convo is a story about a hat, how the band prides themselves on great live performances, good barbecue, a cover song, and an upcoming European tour. Take a ride won't you?

This is the one where us Texas natives (Finding STAX and Johnny P) chat about a Bernie Sanders encounter, working with Al Pacino and Charlie Sheen, Prilosec, and Thunder Cats. We also discuss John's role in the upcoming third season of the groundbreaking television series 25 years in the making, maybe you've heard of it, called Twin Peaks, and the coming soon to HBO, new series from Bill Hader and Alec Berg, called Barry also starring Henry 'The Fonz' Winkler.

After a little hiatus, I caught up with the band I'm Your Density and he gave me a cassette tape of this demo they worked on. Very nostalgic, the tape even had pieces of paper shoved into the two tiny squares to make it a recordable tape. The original tape info was marked out with old school liquid white out. I was curious what was behind it, so I scratched out just a bit and it said something about Menudo?

This is the episode where I talk with the lead singer and bass player Matt from the Canadian punk rock band Deforesters. We discuss how half the band met at a brewery, how they came up with their name from a painting, Star Trek references, the scene and touring life in Canada, and of course how Back to the Future inspired us all.
