Bands to watch at Sled Island Music Festival!

This week it's all about new music and MUSIC WASTE! Started in 1994 in response to a more corporate Vancouver festival called “Music West”, Music Waste is entirely DIY, volunteer run, and features over 70 local bands. In the last few years the way the festival is organized has changed to make sure they’re including a broader range of genres and voices, though the majority is still punk, indie, rock, pop, and electronic. The festival takes place at venues across Vancouver from June 7-10th, with showcases of DIY Art, Poetry, and for the first time EVER, DRAG Waste! It’s hands down my favourite event in the city, check it out.

May 17th is International Day Against Transphobia, Biphobia and Homophobia, so this episode is extra queer and features music ONLY by LGBTQ+ folks. Stay safe out there, flamers

It’s harvest moon tonight pals. It’s back to school. There’s a sulfuric haze resting over Vancouver, and it feels super weird. So cast a spell, find a dish to lovingly arrange your gems in, and charge 'em up.

When you think of "coming out", it's most likely you're imagining a young man or woman sitting their parents down, and confessing that they're gay. Coming out has been an essential part of visibility in the LGBTQ+ rights movement for decades. This year, I worked with Elizabeth Holliday to highlight the stories of folks whose sexualities and gender identities do not fit into the Gay or Lesbian vs. Straight binary. These are the coming out stories of Bisexual, Pansexual, Trans, and Queer folks. Part 2 features interviews by Madeline.
