QRS1e14 – American Dreams Participant; Kathy Barron Discusses How She Came up with Driving Wedges And How it Helps
31/05/2018 Duración: 31minDo you or anyone you love suffer from hip pain, lower back pain, or sore or cramping legs, particularly when you drive long distances or sit for long periods of time? Do you get to a rest area and climb out of your car wincing and hobbling along? That used to be me. When I would drive up and down I-75 between Florida and Michigan several times a year, I wouldn’t only be sore on the drive, but for days after I got there. I’ve been a massage therapist for over 20 years, so I spent some time figuring out why I was so sore and what I could do about it. I noticed that if I put my hand between the leg and the door, that gave me some relief. Only I couldn’t very well hold my hand there for 10 hours at a time. I thought, how wonderful would it be to have something to hold my leg? And that’s when the idea for the Driving Wedges was born. A quick anatomy commentary: most people sit in a car with their legs splayed out, one leg resting against the door, the other resting against the console. This external rotation of th

QRS1e13 – Cara Brzezicki Inventor of The Sippie Clippie Talks How She’s Preventing Sippy Cups From Hitting The Floor.
17/05/2018 Duración: 20minCara is a wife, mother, and the Owner/CEO of Jazzie Beans LLC, a business she named after her Shih-Tzu/Maltese mix. Her dog Jazzie Beans is such a sweet and happy dog that Cara had to name her company Jazzie Beans to reflect that happiness and sweetness in her every day life and into her company! Before her company was born, Cara created the Sippie Clippie™, a patent pending clamp and cord accessory to prevent sippy cups from hitting the ground. When Cara's first son was six months old, he would drop his sippy cup all of the time. The first time he did it, he thought it was funny and so the sippy-cup-dropping-game began. Cara could not find anything on the market that would work on her high chair or table, so she went to the hardware store, bought a clamp that would fit over a high chair (which was super huge), drilled a hole and attached a cord and hair tie. Cara actually took her first prototype out in public to restaurants and received so much feedback. After receiving so much feedback, Cara wanted a small

S3e14 – 15-year-old Inventor of Tip Tough, RJ Batts Shares How he Came up With This Pro Chef Tool
02/05/2018 Duración: 38minAnyone who has ever cut their finger while cutting or chopping food may want to thank RJ Batts, the 15-year-old inventor of Tip Tough®, a simple and inexpensive way to protect professional chefs and home cooks from injury. When RJ was 12, he became consumed with the idea that there had to be a way to help his dad, a professional chef, protect his hands. Bob would often come home with painful cuts and bandaged fingers which sometimes kept him out of work. A year later, 3-D printouts in hand, RJ was accepted into the Young Entrepreneurs Academy at the Salisbury (MD) Area Chamber of Commerce and formed his company, Picklehead LLC. For months he went to classes and on field trips after school, learning how to set up a business, find funding, craft a pitch, and bring the Tip Tough® to market – all while attending middle school and playing on his soccer team. In October 2016, RJ received start-up funding from the Shore Hatchery Competition at Salisbury University (beating out grown-ups from 30 businesses) for a Sec

PTGRS1e12- JoyLynn Waganer, Inventor of The Drop Stoppers, Pitches Her Invention to Our Hosts Karina and Jared
20/04/2018 Duración: 47minBefore becoming a mom to twins, I had a corporate career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Behavioral Analyst and considered myself a very social person. Once the twins arrived, my world changed. For various reasons, my husband and I decided I would stay home with the kids. This decision excited and terrified me at the same time. How did I keep my sense of "me" and still be a good mom to these beautiful babies? For the first few months we really didn't go anywhere for fear of germs for our preemie babies. After a few months of that, my husband and I started taking them out and realized we had to lug a lot with us to feel comfortable. When Brian went back to work it was me, by myself. I realized through my sleepy new-mom stupor that I really wanted to have lunch with my friends. Just get out of the house with the kids and do SOMETHING. So, when I was chatting about my fears of restaurant floors, my awesome husband threw out some ideas. I started with a prototype using stuff we had in the basement. I tri

QRS1e11 – American Dreams Participant; Inventor of The Cupcake Rack, Liz Crouch Tells How She Came up With Her Product
11/04/2018 Duración: 37minHAVE YOU EVER SEEN A CUPCAKE BOUQUET? THE FIRST TIME I SAW A CUPCAKE BOUQUET, I THOUGHT TO MYSELF THAT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY I COULD EVER CREATE ANYTHING SO BEAUTIFUL! I had no cake decorating skills, no patience and absolutely no time, just like most Americans. I wanted to invent an easy and affordable way for anyone, just like me, to be able to easily create a deliciously gorgeous cupcake bouquet. The idea came about when my daughter, Chelsea, and I were planning a baby shower for my daughter, Shaanon. As a unique twist for the party, we were going to present a beautiful cupcake bouquet instead of a traditional cake. After pricing the bouquet, making one, DIY style, sounded like a better option. But then, after pricing the pieces to create a cupcake bouquet – Styrofoam ball, tissue paper, flower pot, toothpicks, etc. – and understanding that the end result may not end up as lovely as expected, a traditional cake seemed the most appropriate dessert for the shower. THERE WAS NO CUPCAKE BOUQUET AT OUR SHO
