    26/06/2019 Duración: 47min

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 324: Lora Jones Shares How She Found Faith In The Midst of Tragedy   Lora Jones’s world shattered on Nov. 23, 2004, the night she survived but lost her husband and two children in a head-on collision. Keith and his wife Kristyn Getty occupy a unique space in the world of music today as preeminent modern hymn writers. It was voted the #2 best-loved hymn of all time in the UK according to a BBC Songs of Praise national survey and among the top 5 hymns of all time by the UK Hymns Society. It is a lecture delivered by Dr. Julie Galambush. Dr. Galambush is the author of The Reluctant Parting: How the New Testament’s Jewish Writers Created a Christian Book. She received her Ph.D. in Old Testament studies from Emory University and her master of divinity degree from Yale Divinity School.   The Lecture: Hidden Truths: Why Translators Intentionally Mistranslate the Bible Translators often choose between showing readers what the Bible does say and what they believe it should say. Strangely, the very fact that translators often believe in the Bible’s authority means they tend to “correct” it--making it say what it should, even when it says something very different. So, what is it that translators don’t want you to know? GET THE BOOK: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=The+Reluctant+Parting&re

The Lecture: Luke-Acts and the Creation of Christianity.  The author of Luke-Acts created the now-familiar worldview in which Christianity is simultaneously the fulfillment and the rejection of the Jewish community. In a sad irony, the New Testament narrative that begins by saying God has remembered his people Israel ends with the announcement that God has turned away from the Jews. • Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 314: Calvary Movie Reflection

    17/04/2019 Duración: 38min

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 314: Calvary Movie Reflection This week is Holy Week 2019 and as I have done every Holy Week since 2014 when it released, I am revisiting the film Calvary and sharing some reflections on the film. Disclaimer #1: The audio on today's episode turned out to not be great. I'm not sure why there is so much background noise on the audio but given the nature of the episode I couldn't rerecord it so it is what it is.    Disclaimer #2: This is not an endorsement for you to go and see the film Calvary, which is Rated R, and is a very difficult and disturbing film. This episode simply shares my reflections on why the film has been important and formative in my life and why I revisit it each Holy Week.   Disclaimer #3: I am in no way associated with the film, is director, or anyone involved in the making of the film. I'm just a guy who watched it.    About Your Host: Rick Lee James Official Web Site: www.RickLeeJames.com Latest Album: https://fanlink.to/RLJThunder Available

  • Voices In My Head Podcast Episode #307: Father of Christian Rock, Joseph Markko and The All Saved Freak Band.

    27/02/2019 Duración: 35min

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode #307: Father of Christian Rock, Joseph Markko and The All Saved Freak Band.     “In the fall of 1968, a small radio station in Ashtabula, Ohio unleashed a whole new genre of music upon their listeners when they aired the All Saved Freak Band’s first recorded songs. It was the very first time ANYONE had heard the idiom of rock music being used to convey the message of the gospel (This was before Larry Norman and a full 5 years before to the term Contemporary Christian Music being coined!)   The All Saved Freak Band’s unique sound stemmed from its ensemble of 12 members skilled in rock, folk, blues, psychedelia, and classical music. ASFB blended those genres and sounds together to deliver straight, unvarnished, lyrical truth which countered the hedonism purveyed by much of rock n roll.   What makes their work so worthy of reissue is the bold experimentation and superior musicianship on display – qualities critics often find lacking in the very Contemporary Christian genre
