  • Under Ten Fitness: Back For More

    07/07/2015 Duración: 49min

Today we talk about the Under ten Fitness (itunes link). This is a short podcast (under ten minutes – get it?) that has a little bit of news and the talks about something in the health and fitness area. Things They Are Doing Right: Nice job wrapping up the tip & delivering it to one person rather than a group of listeners Nice job of focusing on a key take away Things They Could Tweak Be sure to drive traffic back to their your website, and mention the website in your show. Work on a website. The classic podcast system is 1. A Self-hosted wordpress website 2. Using Libsyn, or blubrry.com for your media host (and yes you need a media host). 3. Have great looking custom artwork 4. Have an easy to navigate website. They using podomatic for a media host (one of the worst), and their website is confusing. The website does not match the level of the podcast. You have good content, but your website needs lots of work. You also want to make it easy to contact you. The Good Parts: The intro and outro along with some of the sound effects and production elements were great (Courtesy of Music Radio Creative). You both have great insights and experience with this topic. As brothers you have a natural chemistry. The website and the audio quality were fine. The branding with the bears is nice icing on the cake. Put that panda on a Tee Shirt! Things That Could Be Tweaked: It took you four minutes to introduce what was coming on the show. You were missing the “Title” ID3

  • Inside the Jewelry Trade

    30/03/2015 Duración: 52min

The Poddcast: Inside the Jewelry Trade (iTunes) (stitcher)Website: http://fourgrainer.com/ This is a podcast designer for Jewlers on how to get more business. Its always kind of hard to get into the shoes of the listener (Jewlers) when you are not the target audience. Pros: The intro was well produced, decent energy. Nice use of humor and not taking yourself too seriously Lots of time put into the show, very NPR type delivery. Enjoyed the “changing watch batteries” stories. Show has an amazing arc. (Why they are excited, what they like most, personal stories, forcasting, recap). With all the clips, the volume never needed adjusted, and it flowed. Simple call to action at the end By asking for a donation, it adds personality to your podcast. Thing that Might Need Tweaked The intro promises a lot in the intro, that might lead to confusion Give a tease as to what is coming on the show at the very beginning. Not sure why Michelle was missing through most of the episode. A trick for those doing clip shows. Let the

  • The Coffee Couch

    30/07/2014 Duración: 54min

Today we take a peak at Dan Hansen's Coffee Couch a dedicated to "Creating Positive Social Change through Connectedness and Persistence". IN this episode Dan explains what inspired him to get into podcasting and what his show is about. Here are some of the notes from the show: Things That Are Going Well Seems well planned and to the point. Nice quote & story Easily digestible piece & short form Good job of putting book links in the show notes Nice clean look at the website. Things That Need Tweaked The three points were a little confusing. Maybe making it more obvious when one ended and the next began. The show setup seemed like buzzwords instead of really telling me what is coming.   Maybe just a touch more energy The website needs an about page about the podcast & you . • Special Mouse Podcast

    14/07/2014 Duración: 01h02min

The Special Mouse podcast is about going to Disney Parks with someone who has special needs. It is a great example of a podcast that embraces its community, and how a small niche can be just as powerful as a giant audience on a broad topic. Full disclosure, Dave edit's Kathy's podcast so asking Dave to rate the audio is not going to get an unbiased response. Stuff Kathy is Doing Right Intro: nice & clean.  Love the warmth with no big voice guy The sponsor fits well with the content. RN gives Kathy credibility Love the mouse theme with “mouse-keeping†and “anony-mouseâ€. Great Mickey tip of the week - be careful about copyright Enjoyed the knowledge and stories. Nice takeaway at the end - wrapped it up nicely Good job of enforcing that you know what it’s like - real stories Who doesnt’ love behind the scenes stuff? Soon to be ex-cast member for compalining. Loved the flow, ttransitions Loved the “down homeyness†I’m too busy to spam you. The about page is outward focused - nicely done Things

  • Short Time Wrestling Podcast

    07/07/2014 Duración: 01h10min

The Short Time Wrestling Podcast covers the world of Wrestling (not the TV type). Jason Bryant comes on the show to see what he’s doing great, and identify items that may need some tweaking. Doing Well Doing a great job pulling stories out of guests Obvious show prep and really knowing your guest Great forum with lots of activity Content moves quickly Well produced Nice information on website Could Improve A bit of a band confusion with URLs, names and website (who is TOM). Could use a bit of white space on the website Be careful with yes no questions Avoid the obvious question, and find a new slant on those. • Sci-Fi Movie Podcast

    14/06/2014 Duración: 01h07min

Dave and Erik talk with Rem from the Sci-Fi Movie podcast. This is a podcast for someone who is looking to Dig deeper into sci-fi movies. Here is What They Are Doing Right In this episode they talked about Aliens the sequel to the movie Alien. They do a good job of comparing all the movies in this series. Great story about seeing the movie in the theater and the feelings it created They did a good of referring to each other by name (good for first time listeners). They get their audience involved with show via facebook. Their website is clean and easy to use. Good sounding audio. Really interesting trivia Really nice pace at the beginning/opening of the show Things They Might Want to Tweak Keep in mind Dave is no a sci-fi fan… There is cool trivia, and then there is nit picking. Dave does not care who would win in a fight between Han Solo and Superman. This episode included a segment where they acted out the movie (this has been retired). You might think of adding a generic amazon button in addition to the

  • Contractor's Secret Weapon

    02/06/2014 Duración: 47min

The contractor’s secret weapon is a podcast to help contractors get more business. It is hosted by Dave Negri and Justin Jones. Today we have Dave on the show who explains how they record, and why they got into podcasting. Here are some of our thoughts: Good Stuff: Great use of personal stories to amplify your points. It really helps show that you know what you’re talking about. Great job on the introduction explaining what the podcast is about. Stuff to Tweak: The website needs a bit of tweaking. I would use the Powerpress player to give more options to your visitors. Add an RSS button on the site. There are a couple of areas that leas to the same pages that is a bit confusing. • Ministry Encouragement Podcast

    19/05/2014 Duración: 01h02min

The Ministry Encouragement podcast is to help encourage Christ Followers. It is hosted by Jim Hollis. Here is what we thought. The intro was nice. You might consider explaining a bit more what the podcast will be about. You need a pop filter You seemed a bit stiff (it almost sounded like you were reading the contents) When you talk about personal stories it is more engaging. The story about witnessing on a plane really grabbed our attention. That was great. You could take it one step further and use descriptive words to really pain that picture in the theater of the mind. Come up with a call to action, and don’t be afraid to mention your service. Use bullet points for your show notes, and just talk into the microphone as if you are talking to a friend. Your website is clean. It needs an “about” page.   What are you thoughts about the Ministry Encouragement Podcast? (leave them below). • Fast Pitch Radio

    13/05/2014 Duración: 01h03min

Fat Pitch Radio and TV is great a podcast put together by Gary Lealand. In the episode we listened to he pulled his community in by soliciting questions from his facebook group. His website looks great, and his audio is well done. The advertisements that he inserts into his show are entertaining and brief. When interviewing people he should just go to the next question instead of announcing that he is going to the next question. All in all a great podcast for those who love past pitch softball. • Catholic Travel Journal

    05/05/2014 Duración: 53min

Today Dave and Erik review the Catholic Travel Podcast. This podcast is “The weekly audio journal about our pilgrimage preparations. We publish a new show every Monday.†The Good Stuff Good job of keeping things flowing, and sticking with theme (St pats). Good audio. Nice album artwork The way the hosts engaged with the guest. Nice follow-up questions. The personal, conversational style felt like we were talking at the kitchen table Great use of vivid words with the dinner and backyard descriptions Things That Could Be Tweaked Define the show for the audience right in the intro every episode. Set it up. Why am I here? Control your guest. He sometimes talked a long time. Ask questions to get him to focus. Use more vivid descriptions and great follow-up questions. Ask what your audience is asking in their heads. Depending on your choice, non cathloics are a bit lost (but then again, I’m not your audience). Don’t send people to pages with nothing. Would you keep a question in your podcast if you asked

  • Digital Flotsam

    28/04/2014 Duración: 01h30s

Due to a family emergency the show we were going to review could not make the show this week. In its place I went back into the vault of the podcast review show. I found episode 1 from May 2009. I chose a show I really liked called Digital Flotsam from from P.W. Fenton. This is a well produced podcast that is delivered with lots of warmth and preparation. P.W. Fenton doesn’t produce on a redictable schedule, but when a new episode is out he comes with a great story.
