Ed Giese takes another coaching path, this time to Budapest
07/04/2022 Duración: 01h12minDuring the 2022 European Championships at BOK Sportcsarnok, I sat down with Illinois native and 1986 Division I All-American Ed Giese. Ed goes through his years wrestling in Illinois, competing at Minnesota in an era before J Robinson was coaching there, wrestling with Foxcatcher and help train the next level of wrestlers in Illinois through his work at Team Overtime with current Michigan head coach Sean Bormet. Ed will then chat about what he’s doing in Hungary and how he’s made the adjustment to coaching women at the international level, most of whom have a developmental background much, much different than any wrestlers he’s ever coached before. We’re all over the place, but you’re gonna learn something. Mic'd Up Matside with Augsburg's Tony Valek
11/02/2022 Duración: 30minSometimes we get an opportunity to put new gear to use and try to come up with new features to bring another perspective to coverage and content. Episode 698 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast is just that. With some new wireless devices used to record audio, I hit record on Augsburg co-head coach Tony Valek during the annual Battle of the Burgs dual on January 27 in Minneapolis. What this episode highlights is Valek’s coaching style just as the meet begins, during the competition and how he gets athletes ready during the moments before competing, during injury time and some interactions with the staff as they go through a heated dual meet. Set to background music, this can be consumed as a passive listening experience or listened closely to see how certain coaches are in mat side situations. Will there be more of these? That’s dependent on the feedback. We have two so far - both coming from Battle of the Burgs. Eric Keller, Wartburg head coach, will be released soon. Links to FollowDaily Wrestling Newslette

Amid non-Division I powers, Portillo twins match exemplifies wrestling's awesomeness
21/01/2022 Duración: 58minIowa natives Justin and Josh Portillo have been battling each other their entire lives. The twin 125-pounders took that sibling rivalry to the next level on January 15 when Josh's Nebraska-Kearney Lopers hosted Justin's Grand View Vikings an a dual between two of the top programs outside of Division I.The bait? UNK was trying to snap Grand View's college wrestling record win streak, which stood at 111 going into the dual. The hook? The twin brothers would wrestle each other in the dual's final bout, presumably with the dual meet outcome - and potentially the streak - on the line.
