  • Terry Daniels: It's all his fault

    17/01/2023 Duración: 44min

Today, Short Time is a personal interview with someone you’ve never previously heard from, unless you happened to listen to a Hampton-based sports talk show called Contact Sports 20-something years ago. Few people had an impact on my life in sports more than Terry Daniels. Terry isn’t family, but he pretty much has been a part of it for the last 20 years. When I was in high school, Terry asked one day if I wanted to go to the wrestling match on a Wednesday in January of 1995. Some of you have heard me tell this story. Today on Short Time, you get to hear it from the man himself. A longtime resident of Poquoson, Virginia, Terry’s been a sports junkie for most of his life. His enjoyment of high school sports and local sports rubbed off an another sports junkie who loved high school sports and local sports in 1995, me. • 20 years later, Limestone coach Brandy Green relished the chance to compete in Fargo

    15/08/2022 Duración: 18min

In 2002, USA Wrestling launched the first Junior Women’s Freestyle National Championships and the tournament joined the four men’s divisions in Fargo, North Dakota. The fifth tournament in Fargo would feature just over 100 young women. One of those first champions was Michigan’s Brandy Green, who then was known as Brandy Rosenbrock. Green was one of the first two women to ever win multiple titles in Fargo, joining Oregon’s Samantha Lang as two-timers with their championships in 2003. Green also competed at the 2004 Olympic Team Trials as part of the first group of women who wrestled for a chance to represent the U.S. at the Olympic Games. Now currently the head women’s coach at Limestone University in Gaffney, South Carolina, Green looks back on what the experience meant for her and what her experiences have done to help her train and coach the next generation of wrestlers as they compete on the mats in Fargo and have actual bonafide college wrestling opportunities where they were few and far between when Gre

  • California's Malinda Ripley is one of Fargo's first women pioneers

In 2002, USA Wrestling launched the first Junior Women’s Freestyle National Championships and the tournament joined the four men’s divisions in Fargo, North Dakota. The fifth tournament in Fargo would feature just over 100 young women. One of those first champions was California’s Malinda Ripley. Twenty years later, you’ll still find Ripley on the floor in Fargo, coaching the women of Team California. In July of 2022, I caught up with Ripley to talk about what she remembers about the opportunity presented at that first championship, her drive to go “big game hunting” in chasing down Mary Kelly of Illinois and what it’s meant to her to coach a generation of girls who didn’t have to break down doors, rather just walk through them as they were opened by people like Ripley. This is the full interview from the women’s feature released by Mat Talk Online during Fargo back in July.
