#463 - Duke can’t scale Mt. Edey as Purdue down the Devils
29/11/2022 Duración: 54minDuke's big men looked small against Purdue's mountain of a man, Zach Edey. It would be easy to merely look at the impact Edey has on the game and say that was the reason Duke lost, but the Duke Basketball Report podcast crew dives a bit deeper to figure out what Duke needs to improve upon. The scoring droughts and the lack of perimeter shooting are major causes of concern as is the way Purdue dominated Duke on the boards. But, this is a young squad and they will take important lessons from this game. After the break, the podcast crew looks ahead to the first place Duke will get to apply those lessons, an ACC-Big Ten Challenge game against Ohio State. The Buckeyes present several interesting challenges and this will be a very important game for Duke to show they belong among the top teams in the land. And, before we are done, the podcast crew has some words about the remarkable regular season for the football Blue Devils who beat Wake Forest over the weekend and now await word of what bowl in which they will p

#462 - Two down, one to go at PK85
26/11/2022 Duración: 01h05minDuke had a successful and very suspenseful Thanksgiving and Black Friday out in Portland. Wins over Oregon St. and Xavier may have been largely expected, but did not come without several doses of drama. The story of each game was so different and the DBR Podcast guys are here to break it all down for you. First, came the Oregon State game, a contest Duke would not have won without the play of Ryan Young. Raise your hand if you thought those words would be spoken this season. Yeah, we thought not. Then was the game with Xavier, a contest in which Duke shot better but a high-quality opponent kept the game close anyway. Duke's defense was truly special down the stretch in both games and so the Devils find themselves in the PK85 championship against Purdue and the tallest player Duke is likely to face all season. #461 - Duke passes Bellarmine test, better competition awaits
22/11/2022 Duración: 51minMake no mistake about it, it takes courage for a blue blood like Duke to play a team like Bellarmine. With their endless passing and pump fakes, they can make even the most disciplined team look foolish at times. But, Duke's young team was up to the task, a testament to the hard work the coaches and players have been putting in. The Duke Basketball Report Podcast team breaks down what Duke did right and the few things that went wrong in this game. Then, after the break, they give you all you need to know about Duke's Thanksgiving weekend in Portland, Oregon. First up will be Oregon State, but the podcast gang is really excited about the second round matchup against Florida or Xavier, two teams who will present a real test to Duke's impressive big men. #460 - Duke Downs Delaware
20/11/2022 Duración: 56minDuke rides some impressive performances from the freshman class, especially Kyle Filipowski and Tyrese Proctor, to take down a pesky Delaware club that kept the game competitive for a lot longer than many had expected. But, Duke's height and depth eventually won the day in a game that may be most notable for being the debut of freshman phenom Dariq Whitehead. He gave us a tantalizing preview of things to comes as a guy who can get his shot any time he wants to. After the break, the DBR Podcast guys take a moment to preview Ballarmine, a truly unique opponents known as "the team that refuses to dribble." We also spend some time talking about the latest Duke football game, a strange contest with Pitt that featured pigeons, punts, and just a lot of unusual stuff. Oh, and we wrap it all up with a shout out to the excellent recruiting job being done by Kara Lawson and her staff. Learn more about your ad choices. #459 - Lessons learned from Kansas defeating Duke
17/11/2022 Duración: 59minDuke may have lost in the Champions Classic to Kansas, but the Duke Basketball Report Podcast crew is really excited about how Duke looked in this contest. Obviously, they are raving about Kyle "Mr. Double-Double" Filipowski but also saw a lot to like from several other freshmen who are not playing like this is just their third game in a college uniform. And, though there was a lot to like despite the L, the guys also discuss the problems from this game, including some rather controversial decisions by the referees (cue up a good little rant from Donald and Jason). After the break, the DBR Podcast looks across the ACC to examine the problems some of our conference rivals are having and what it means for Duke if the rest of the ACC is struggling in the non-conference season. #458 - An easy weekend
13/11/2022 Duración: 51minIt was a great weekend to be a Blue Devil, from the basketball court to the gridiron. In basketball, Duke takes down USC Upstate after a quick burst from the otherwise overwhelmed Spartans, and on Saturday, the football team dominated Virginia Tech. We are back to talk about all of it. On the basketball front, we are giddy over Duke's defensive effort in this game, as well as Dereck Lively II's first appearance in a Duke uniform. Duke had standout performances from a number of players, but Jason needs to tell you in particular how excited he is about Jaylen Blakes's progress. We are a little worried about Tyrese Proctor's progress, but there is plenty of season left for him to get more comfortable. This week, Duke heads to Indianapolis for this year's Champions Classic, where they will play reigning champions Kansas. How will Duke handle Jalen Wilson? We can't wait to see. After the break, we get into Duke's seventh football victory, a ho-hum affair against the Hokies where Duke was undoubtedly the better tea

09/11/2022 Duración: 45minThe Duke Men’s Basketball Team finally open the 2022-23 season, and it’s a great debut not just for the many freshmen and transfers on the team, but also for head coach Jon Scheyer. We recap the good, the bad, and the favorites on Episode 456. The 71-44 victory over the Jacksonville Dolphins was a great effort on both offense and defense. After dishing out the headlines, the crew recaps everything, starting with standout performances from players like Mark Mitchell and Jeremy Roach. Of course, we have to eat the veggies with some of the things to improve, and then we end with a new thing that we think we’re going to keep: favorite play of the game. Each of us nominate a couple of plays that we thought were worth the honors. After the break, we preview Friday’s matchup with the USC Upstate Spartans. With the season just underway, there’s not a lot of stats to review for the Spartans, but we dig deep to bring you the best analysis of what we can expect on Friday evening. #451 - Countdown complete
24/10/2022 Duración: 01h07minBasketball season, at long last, is upon us here at the DBR Podcast. We've now whet our appetites on 16 minutes of Blue-White game scrimmage during Countdown to Craziness, we've survived the collective horror at the small, elevated stage that all the players had to dance on Friday night, and we're ready to dive into all of it. On the game, we're most impressed with presumed redshirt big man Christian Reeves, but plenty of other new guys showed promise, including Kyle Filipowski, Tyrese Proctor, and Jacob Grandison. The crew is disappointed we didn't get to see stud freshmen Dereck Lively II and Dariq Whitehead, but it sounds like they will be back sooner than later. After some analysis of the various dance moves on display at Countdown, we dive into the football game, which was a stunning display in forcing turnovers, both by punched-out fumbles and interceptions. Duke has recovered nicely from recent losses to get to the precipice of bowl eligibility with four games left on the schedule and a bye week up nex

#449 - Duke downed by UNC
17/10/2022 Duración: 51minThe Duke Blue Devils suffered another devastating defeat on the gridiron this weekend, this time to the North Carolina Tar Heels. It leads our discussion on Episode 449. Duke has a lot to be proud of in their effort against UNC, but it’s yet again another moral victory that fans have to have in place of an actual victory. The podcast crew discusses the good and the bad from the game. After the break, we get into basketball. ACC held its Media Day last week, and we discuss some comments from Duke head coach Jon Scheyer about how Duke will play this year. we also heard from ACC commissioner Jim Phillips, who is ready for expansion of the NCAA Tournament. We finally end with a quick thought on the NBA seemingly keeping its current NBA Draft eligibility rules in place. Countdown to Craziness is this weekend! #448 - Captain Roach
09/10/2022 Duración: 45minSam and Jason are here to run down Duke's latest football game with Donald off in Europe, and shorthanded is sort of how the Blue Devils felt on Saturday at Georgia Tech. Jason was in attendance at Bobby Dodd Stadium to see Duke's 23-20 overtime loss from the press box, so we have a lot of first-hand account from this one. We walk through Duke's various miscues throughout the game, from play-calling to penalties, as well as Jason's review of the press box set up in Atlanta. After the break, we dive into Jeremy Roach's selection as the sole captain of the men's basketball team for the upcoming season. It's not entirely surprising, but we need to get into some of the alternatives and why we think this makes the most sense for Jon Scheyer and his team. Finally, we have to spend a few minutes on the amazing display that the presumptive top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft Victor Wenbanyama put on in Las Vegas a few days ago. If there was any chance of him coming to college, we would be stumbling over the potential that

#447 - Secret Practice Video
03/10/2022 Duración: 01h01minHere's something special. A loyal listener to The DBR Podcast attended a special private basketball practice inside Cameron Indoor Stadium last week and was allowed to videotape more than 20 minutes of the team scrimmaging. Though the video has not been released to the public, this listener did provide a copy of it to the DBR Podcast gang and they are here to break it all down for you. They saw a Duke team that loves to shoot 3-pointers and one that seems to have a lot of potential on defense. They saw flashes of really impressive play from youngsters Mark Mitchel, Kyle Filipowski, and Tyrese Proctor. But, they also saw a team that seemed very raw and which does not have any transcendent talent like Paolo Banchero or Zion Williamson. Still, this edition of the DBR Podcast gives us our best view yet of what the 2022-23 Blue Devils will be like. Learn more about your ad choices. #446 - QB time with Riley Leonard
27/09/2022 Duración: 30minWe're back with more Duke Football flavor than Duke Basketball this week, but alas, the Blue Devils were not able to continue their early season winning streak against Kansas. Jason is out but Sam and Donald are here to bring you positive vibes. Our collective take on the Kansas game is that while we are disappointed that Duke wasn't able to overcome the home favorites, we see Duke's progress so far and the performances across the rest of the ACC, and we don't think that Duke making a bowl game is entirely out of the question in the first year of the Mike Elko era. After the break, we bring you an interview that Jason did with Riley Leonard, Duke's sophomore quarterback who has been a revelation this season. We conducted the interview before the Kansas game, but we'll say that Leonard's answers still hold. We wrap with a quick discussion about Duke commit Jared McCain's NIL deal with Champs Sports. McCain appears to be getting a jump on his sponsorship deals even before he reaches Duke's campus, which is a pr

#445 - From high school to the league?
20/09/2022 Duración: 41minCould the NBA once again let high school players bypass college and enter the NBA Draft? That’s the primary topic of discussion on Episode 445! The NBA and NBA Players Association are discussing potentially allowing 18 year olds to enter the NBA Draft beginning in 2024. Jason, Sam, and Donald discuss the ramifications of how that would affect Duke’s recruiting and whether it would alleviate the number of players that would leave college early to chase their NBA dreams. After the break, we say goodbye to Jason, but Sam and Donald stick around to discuss the 3-0 Duke Football Team, who pummeled NC A&T over the weekend. They also discuss the upcoming contest against Kansas, who are also 3-0. It has become a fairly significant game as Duke seeks to close out the non-conference portion of their schedule undefeated. Finally, the Point Gawd is once again a WNBA champion! Chelsea Gray won another ring as the Las Vegas Aces won their first title. In the process. Gray was named WNBA Finals MVP. She’s truly a special ta

#444 - How Hard is Duke’s ACC Schedule?
15/09/2022 Duración: 40minThe ACC released it full conference schedule this week and you can bet that the DBR Podcast gang spent a good bit of time pouring over the sked to see who got a break and who got a tough assignment from the scheduling gods. The analysis, of course, begins with Duke's schedule. The podcast tells us about the biggest hurdles along the way (hint: the UNC to Miami turnaround is going to be really tough) and which games may be a bit more relaxing. There's also the matter of 3 ACC games in the month of December, something we have not seen very often in the past. After the break, the podcast turns its gaze to the rest of the conference. They see one team projected in the middle of the ACC pack who got a phenomenally easy ACC schedule. And no analysis of the conference schedule would be complete without a look at what UNC faces this coming season. Learn more about your ad choices.
