  • #501 - How to beat Oral Roberts

    15/03/2023 Duración: 54min

The Blue Devils dive into the big dance tomorrow night with a matchup against a very good Oral Roberts club. The DBR Podcast team went deep into the stats and the videotape to figure out what has allowed ORU to win every game they have played since early January. And at the core of this analysis is two players -- scoring guard Max Abmas, a three-point specialist, and 7-5 Connor Vanover, who's game is different from pretty much any man-mountain you have ever seen. The podcast crew looks at how Oral Roberts has done against other quality competition and what the matchups will look like when they play Duke. Anyone who thinks this game will be easy is fooling themselves. After the break, the podcast guys talk about something that has changed about Duke lately -- their pace of play. They explain why slowing things down has led to better results. And, before they guys are done with the edition of the most popular Duke podcast around, they also lay out the path for the Duke Devil women as they embark on their own ro

  • DBR Bites #21 - Bracket Busting with Booz!

    14/03/2023 Duración: 27min

The DBR Podcast is excited for the NCAA Tournament, and on Bites Episode 21, we welcome back Duke great and current ACC Network analyst Carlos Boozer to discuss the NCAA Tournament! Boozer has seen more ACC basketball than just about anyone, so we discuss the teams that made the NCAA Tournament and why they collectively have a chance to once again show that the conference deserves more respect than it’s getting. We of course talk about how far Duke can go and the key to success for the Blue Devils. We then discuss his partnership with the DraftKings Zero Right Bracket Challenge presented by Pepsi Zero Sugar, where picking the wrong teams could get you some serious cash! Most of us are already picking the wrong teams in the bracket, and in this bracket those same wrong picks can make you a winner. We also touch a bit on Boozer’s thoughts on Jon Scheyer and the job he’s done for Duke this year. Boozer is also the proud father of two twins - Cameron and Cayden - who are two of the best high school sophomores in

  • #500 - Kenny Dennard returns!!

    13/03/2023 Duración: 37min

We have reached the 500th episode of the DBR Podcast, and we’re so happy to welcome back Kenny Dennard to the show! The Dog is a beloved friend of the podcast and has featured on episodes 100, 200, 300, and 400, so it makes sense to bring him back on for this one. We have a nice discussion with Kenny about this year’s Duke Blue Devils team, which is a 5 seed in the East Regional and one of the popular picks to get to at least the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament. We talk about what has worked well for the Blue Devils lately and the Dog gives us his bracket picks. We also get to reflect on this year’s team and the job Jon Scheyer has done in his first season as head coach. Kenny also gives some insight on what it’s like for a team that has big expectations to try and fight it out in the NIT after a season that didn’t go to plan. We love having Kenny Dennard on, and we thank all of you for being a part of 500 full episodes of the DBR Podcast. We will be back in your feeds real soon with more content this week,

  • #499 - NCAA Tournament, here we come!

    13/03/2023 Duración: 37min

The field has been revealed. The Duke Blue Devils find themselves criminally under-seeded as the #5 seed in the East Region, which is loaded with strong teams. But, the DBR Podcast crew is undaunted and actually thinks the Devils got a pretty good bracket, one that could easily end up with Duke cutting down nets and moving on to the Final Four. That notion seemed pretty far-fetched just a couple weeks ago, but with a team that seems to be peaking at just the right moment, there is plenty to be excited about. The Podcast gang also looks at other ACC teams and the opponents they will face as the conference again tries to put on an impressive showing to prove the pundits wrong about the strength of the league. After the break, the Pod has more to say about Duke's victory in the ACC Tournament, including some interesting tidbits about the players from Duke who made it onto the All-Tournament team. Get ready for a big week from the podcast, as they have a couple great guests lined up as we get ready for the start

  • DBR Bites #20 - ACC Champs!

    12/03/2023 Duración: 45min

We are the champions! The Duke Basketball Report podcast is here to celebrate Jon Scheyer's first banner as head coach of the Blue Devils as Duke throttles Virginia and wins an ACC Tournament title in Scheyer's first season. The podcast crew, broadcasting for the first time from a swanky swimming pool, begin with lots of praise for the lockdown Duke defense that kept Virginia from getting any easy shots and scared the Cavs into one of the their worst offensive performances of the year. But, Duke's victory was more than just that stifling defense, led by Dereck Lively. On the other end of the floor, Kyle Filipowski and Jeremy Roach combined to almost outscore the Cavaliers all by themselves as they each showed that even one of the best defensive teams in the nation will struggle to find ways to stop Duke's offensive aces. With the NCAA selection show less than 24 hours away, Duke has made a statement and no one wants to see the Devils in their portion of the bracket. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit pod

  • DBR Bites #19 - Back in the ACC Final

    11/03/2023 Duración: 45min

On this episode of DBR Bites, we mess around with the definition of DBR Bites by going 30+ minutes, doing a full game recap, and still calling it Bites. We promise, though, it is for a good reason, because as we approach episode #500 of the DBR Podcast, we have our favorite repeat guest returning and we need to work around that schedule and Selection Sunday. So, Duke takes down Miami on this episode, and we are excited to talk about Duke's emergence on offense. It was a parade of three-pointers, free throws, assists, and huge rebounding that send Duke into the final. Miami gave Duke a ton to deal with on defense, but Duke responded in a way we have come to expect from this suddenly mature team. The Blue Devils face Virginia in the final tonight, with one more revenge opportunity from February lingering before their seeding is solidified. We'll be back to discuss the outcome of Jon Scheyer's first ACC championship game as head coach soon after it's over. Keep those headlines and reactions coming to dbrpodcast

  • #498 - Pitt Pounded into Submission

    09/03/2023 Duración: 36min

Well, that was fun! The Duke Basketball Report podcast crew is here for a recap of what was almost certainly Duke's best game of the year. Ridiculous shooting combined with stifling defense to allow the Blue Devils to run the Pitt Panthers out of the building. This one was a laugher that was effectively over for almost the entire second half. The podcast gives you a dose of all of it, from the highs of Flip draining threes to the lows of Schutt missing his long-range attempts and everything in between. The podcast says the guy who probably deserves the most praise from this game is Tyreese Proctor, who put up 10 assists and was the key part of continually setting his teammates up for quality looks at the basket. Duke's D has been consistently good lately so when Duke plays offense like this, the opposition is in for a tough time. The pod crew has a good time with the recap and they prepare you for what comes next, a rematch with the Miami Hurricanes. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/

  • DBR Bites 18 - It’s ACC Tournament time!

    07/03/2023 Duración: 33min

It’s time for the ACC Tournament! The DBR Podcast crew is here with Bites Episode 18 as they preview the tournament in Greensboro. The Duke Blue Devils may enter the tournament as the 4 seed, but they are arguably the tournament favorites, as they are playing their best basketball of the season. As they wait for the winner of the Pitt Panthers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, we discuss Duke’s potential path to an ACC title and what they will need to do in order to cut down the nets in Greensboro. We also look at the rest of the bracket and determine what some teams will need in order to get a place in the NCAA Tournament when it’s revealed on Sunday. We also quickly give kudos to Jon Scheyer for being a Joe B. Hall Award finalist. The award is given to a coach in his first season, and while we don’t think Jon will win it, he absolutely deserves to be a finalist. Also, we give congrats to Daniel Jones for his $160M contract extension with the New York Giants...Danny Dimes now is Danny Dollars!! We will be bac

  • #497 - All-ACC awards

    07/03/2023 Duración: 40min

On this episode of the Duke Basketball Report Podcast masquerading as a DBR Bites, we run you through the All-ACC awards as announced by the ACC on Monday, following the conclusion of the regular season this past weekend. Kyle Filipowski is the headliner for Duke, capturing Duke's fourth rookie of the year award in a six-year span. Dereck Lively II also got two nods, one for the all-defense team and the all-rookie team. Tyrese Proctor gets an all-rookie team mention, and we have a bit of quibbling to do with Jeremy Roach getting votes for most improved player and player of the year. Our biggest annoyance is that Jon Scheyer got no love for coach of the year, a travesty we explore in more depth than it probably needed. The podcast will return this week to preview Duke's potential path to an ACC championship, but until then, stay in touch with the show at dbrpodcast at gmail.com, and we will return soon. It's March! • #496 - Season Sweep of the Heels

    05/03/2023 Duración: 01h03min

How sweet it is! Duke knocks back the UNC Tarheels by a score of 62-57, almost identical to the score of their first game in Cameron. The Devils are proving to be masters at winning these low-scoring affairs. This time, it was Kyle Filipowski on offense and a stellar team defensive effort led by Dereck Lively that proved to be too much for our bitter rivals to withstand. The Duke Basketball Report podcast crew chimes in with their analysis of what worked for Duke in Chapel Hill and also the moments that made them nervous. Podcast co-host Donald Wine was in the Dean Dome for the game and gives us some stories of how Jon Scheyer and Hubert Davis handled the post-game news conferences. The Devils march on to the ACC tournament with a whole lot of confidence and a season-high 6-game winning streak... and the podcast is there with them, every step of the way. • #495 - Another Year of Young and Another Carolina Clash

    03/03/2023 Duración: 50min

The DBR Podcast always treats the Carolina game with the respect it deserves, doing a deep dive on where the Tarheels are now and what it will take to beat them. But this Carolina preview episode has even more. The guys start by discussing the news that Ryan Young has announced he plans to return to Durham for one more year in a Duke uniform. They say this is big news as Young provides fierce rebounding, tremendous scoring ability around the bucket, and a much needed dose of experience and leadership to next year's Duke team. Up next, the podcast crew talks about all the seeding possibilities for Duke in the ACC Tourney. The Blue Devils could be anywhere from a #2 to the #5 seed. And step one toward getting a high seed is knocking off the hated Tarheels. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices Learn more about your ad choices. • #494 - Physical Duke clinches perfect Cameron record

    01/03/2023 Duración: 55min

The Duke Blue Devils closed out a perfect 16-0 record at Cameron Indoor Stadium Tuesday night when they beat NC State 71-67. The DBR Podcast crew jumps on soon after the game to recap everything with Episode 494. Donald was in the building, and he starts by giving his take on some of the Senior Night festivities that occurred. Cameron was at full tilt, and the passion was just as palpable as the physicality in this game. We go through some of the headlines and then get to the good from this game, featuring Jeremy Roach’s performance, Dereck Lively and Kyle Filipowski having tremendous effort on defense and on the glass, and Tyrese Proctor locking down Terquavion Smith. The game was physical, and Donald highlights just how tough this young group played. After the break, we get into what didn’t go well for the Blue Devils in this one, from some shooting woes to a tough night moving the ball around in the offense. We close with our favorite plays, and while we don’t look ahead to that team we will face this week

  • DBR Bites #17 - ACC vs. FSU/Clemson

    28/02/2023 Duración: 37min

The ACC has seen conferences like the Big Ten and the SEC sign huge money TV deals over the past 18 months, and a couple of teams in the conference have said it’s time for the ACC to help them keep up with the Joneses. On DBR Bites Episode 17, we discuss recent comments by Florida State and Clemson that call for unbalanced revenue sharing of the current TV money the conference receives. FSU called out the conference the other day, saying that “something needs to change” with regards to the current grant rights deal that runs through 2036. Clemson echoed FSU’s sentiments, with both calling for the ACC to give them more money because they draw the best TV ratings for football. Sam and Donald discuss FSU and Clemson’s desire for an unbalanced revenue sharing, with an eye on how Duke would be affect should the ACC even consider such a move. There’s also the angle of what would happen should FSU and Clemson try to leave the ACC, and whether the conference should attempt to get out of their current deal and restruc

  • DBR Bites #16 - How to tame the Wolfpack

    27/02/2023 Duración: 26min

Tomorrow night, the Duke Blue Devils host the NC State Wolfpack in the final regular season game at Cameron Indoor Stadium. We preview what Duke needs to do to stop NC State on DBR Bites Episode 16. Last time the two teams met up in Raleigh on January 4th, it was a terrible night for the Blue Devils. NC State has been pretty good since then, and they’re just 1 game behind Duke in the ACC standings. Still, Duke also has been pretty good of late, and it creates a matchup where Duke has to feel confident that they can produce a better outing than they did almost 2 months ago. We also discuss the guys for the Wolfpack that destroyed Duke last time out, with DJ Burns being a point of focus alongside the very talented backcourt of Terquavion Smith and Jarkel Joiner. Duke will hopefully play with a ton of energy and intensity, with a chance to end their Cameron schedule with a perfect record. We will have another Bites for you tomorrow before the game, so stay tuned to your feeds for that! Learn more about your ad c

  • #493 - Duke carves up the Hokies

    26/02/2023 Duración: 55min

It was a great night in Cameron Indoor Stadium as the Duke Blue Devils torched the Virginia Tech Hokies. The DBR Podcast crew jumps on to recap it all on Episode 493. There were some great headlines, and we go through some of our favorites before diving into all the good that came out of this game. Jeremy Roach’s 10-10-5 game and Dereck Lively having a perfect game on offense highlights the good, but it was also Duke’s defense on Virginia Tech that made this game fun to watch. All starters in double figures meant that it was a comfortable night for Duke. After the break, we get into the couple of things that didn’t go well last night, namely the slight reduction in production for Kyle Filipowski and from the bench. We also dish out our favorite plays. Jason Evans was in the building last night, and while he’s on the road somewhere in the Smoky Mountains, he tells us about an interaction with TV Teddy Valentine and just how it was being in Cameron for the game. He also tells his adventurous story of getting to

  • #492 - Scheyer’s Recruiting Shift

    24/02/2023 Duración: 01h02min

The article in the Athletic rippled through the Duke community like a bomb going off. Jon Scheyer says he wants more year-to-year continuity in the program and fewer freshmen on the Duke team each year. So, does this mean Duke is done with one-and-done recruits? The DBR Podcast crew is here to break it all down, from what future recruiting classes will look like to how Scheyer can keep players in the program for longer than we have come to expect. The DBR dudes have the numbers and historical examples to give extra depth to this conversation. Plus, they spend some time talking about another recent article in the Athletic that spells out exactly what Coach K has been up to since he retired. How much time is he spending talking to Jon Scheyer and what is K doing with all that extra time in his day? Learn more about your ad choices. • DBR Bites #15 - Seeking revenge against VT

    22/02/2023 Duración: 24min

We're back with DBR Bites to talk Virginia Tech. Duke faces the Hokies on Saturday at Cameron Indoor, and the Blue Devils are looking to even the score after the throat-punching loss in Blacksburg a month ago. Jason and Sam are back to break this one down, and we have to first acknowledge that we know there has been some reporting this week about Jon Scheyer's recruiting approach and Mike Krzyzewski's retirement thoughts, but we need a full episode to dive into all of that. What can Duke fans expect on Saturday? We're looking forward to better big man play and a full appearance by Dariq Whitehead. Virginia Tech hasn't put themselves in a good position for a tournament appearance, but they are always excited to spoil a home stretch in Cameron. Speaking of home arenas, we take a very weird detour into discussing concerts at Reynolds Coliseum. We'll be back again soon, but in the meantime, don't forget to write to us. You know the drill. • #491 - Balanced Duke too much weight for Louisville’s house of Cards

    21/02/2023 Duración: 47min

The Duke Blue Devils took care of business last night against the Louisville Cardinals, and the podcast trio is here to cover it on Episode 491. Duke started out slow but then eventually took care of business with balanced scoring and several highlight moments on offense and defense. After we go through some of the great headlines we received, we move to the good, and there was a ton to cover in this game. The low number of turnovers in this ballgame is certainly a cause for celebration, and it led to incredible ball movement and a ton of assists. The team also shot pretty well and everyone was getting involved. All 5 starters in double figures and the 3 bench contributors giving a lot made this an overall good team win, our first time this season winning the 2nd game of a Saturday/Monday back-to-back. After the break, we do shift to what needs to improve, beginning with the missed high percentage shots leading to shooting droughts. The quick start by Louisville also is discussed as we look at what didn’t go

  • DBR Bites #14 - Nolan Smith returns to Cameron

    20/02/2023 Duración: 28min

On this episode of DBR Bites, we dive into Duke's upcoming home game against the Louisville Cardinals, who have mostly been a disaster this year under first-year head coach Kenny Baker and first-year assistant coach, Duke alum and Louisville legacy Nolan Smith. Sam and Donald break down Louisville's rocky season, but we have to highlight some good developments lately for Louisville, most notably a win Saturday against competitive Clemson, whom Louisville held to an abysmal night from three. Durham native El Ellis has also been a revelation for the Cardinals this year, averaging over 18 points a game, and he is sure to be fired up to be playing back home. We'll be back again, hopefully with the full podcast crew, to recap this one and look ahead at another long layoff before a Saturday matchup. Keep emailing us at dbrpodcast at gmail.com - we haven't decided a new name for the show, so keep those ideas coming! Learn more about your ad choices. • #490 - Orange Crushed

    19/02/2023 Duración: 47min

We knew they had a game like this in them, but it was oh so much fun watching Duke dismantle Syracuse on the way to a 77-55 victory. The Duke Basketball Report podcast crew chime in with their take on the ways this Duke team is evolving into a very dangerous opponent. The three point shooting, led by Dariq Whitehead, and the stellar interior defense, led by Derek Lively were major difference-makers in this contest. The podcast guys also talk about Duke's biggest problem lately, turnovers, and discuss how Duke got them under control in the second half against the Orange. The podcast wraps it all up with the player of the week picks, including on selection that may come as a bit of a surprise. Oh, and stay tuned for a post-credit moment where Donald breaks down why the NBA slam dunk contest wasn't all that interesting to him. Learn more about your ad choices.
