The Southern California Fires have left a lot of people struggling. We talk about how you can help the victims and how to support firefighters. Plus we chat through a few good ideas for teacher gifts. 

The fires are still raging in Southern California and we talk about school closures and how to prepare if you need to evacuate. We also talk about our day driving around Los Angeles finding the best local shops to buy holiday gifts including See's Candies, Sopatopia, Homeboy Industries, Hedley and Bennett, Shop Mi Vida and Fifi and Romeo and Guelegetza. And we chat about that disappointing Al Franken. 

We recorded our podcast earlier in the week, but a few things happened in the news (Matt Lauer! Garrison Keillor!) that we wanted to talk about. 

In this episode, Sarah tells us about her holiday traditions and I talk about the Berkeley Half Marathon. We also chat about fun holiday events in Los Angeles this month.

We were out and about quite a bit lately. The Westfield Century City mall opened this week and we were lucky enough to go to the grand opening where DNCE and the Village People performed. As part of a sponsored campaign, we visited Adventist Health White Memorial Hospital and learned about diabetes health and all that the hospital is doing to help the community of East Los Angeles. Sarah went to a talk about the impact that sugar has on your brain and overall health (which has made me sugar-free for the last couple of days!). Then we chat a bit about the Las Vegas shooting and what it means or doesn't mean for the future. 

This episode is a little longer than our usual podcasts, but we hope you stick with it until the end to hear the founders of LOOM talk about their business of helping new and expecting parents with classes and services. We also talk about Sarah's experience of sitting in on "Teen Court" - not a reality show, but a real-life juvenile justice court where teens sit on a jury to hear the cases of other teens. And lastly we chat a bit about babies and parenting (and the movie "mother").
